Chances Please

Alright so I'll just lay it out and someone tell me if I have a chance. I think my GPA pretty much eliminates me despite my athletics but I figured I might as well ask.

Grade: Junior
ACT: Composite 34 Math: 35 English: 33 Reading: 34 Science: 34 (Have not taken SAT yet but assume a similar score)
Classes: All honors and AP
GPA: 3.6 (Largely due to my decision to take all AP and honors classes

Extracurriculars:
State Champion Track/Cross Country (Do not want to say which state but I will be likely be recruited)
Written 3 unpublished books
Been taking Russian for 8 years, basically fluent
Began taking Arabic last year
2x Captain Track
2x Captain Cross Country
Student Council Vice President
100+ Community service hours

does your school rank its students?

GPA doesn't really mean anything because every school does it differently.

I'd say you have a really good chance. Strong scores and a 3.6 is not that low (as long as you truly were taking many AP's). Try and pull of a 4.0 your junior year though

if you actually get recruited then you will probably be in. Two years ago, a girl at my school got recruited for track, but she did not have the academics you have. She almost won state, but she is in california, so its very competitive.

Your scores are great but your GPA is low. Maybe too low that it may put you out of the running. I'd still apply.

3.6 is fine dont worry about it. If you have amazing essays/recs you should be ok. But then again, admissions are a bit random so you never know.

Recruited athlete = in

^Ditto, definitely in if you are recruited...

as good a chance as anyone else

Let's hope you are strongly recruited, otherwise a 3.6 will not get you in. They expect you to have a 4.0 in all APs and honors, you can't blame a low GPA on a decision to take harder classes... that basically disqualifies you. But again, if you are seriously recruited its a different story.

Well, I don't think you're "likely to be recruited" unless you already have been....you see, most athletes have already arranged everything with D1 coaches (and even D3 coaches) by this time......that is, next year's freshman class is basically settled (in regard to the team).....good luck though!

What did you do in the winter? I am just curious.....

if youre recruited it will help a ton. otherwise, i think your gpa is really low for how competitive stanford is becoming

these "chance me" things are meaningless and demeaning.

and thats all i have to say 'bout that.

For XC and track college coaches are not allowed to call the athlete until after July 1st before senior year. It isn't like basketball where coaches can start trying to recruit and athlete when he is a freshman. What are you referring to though as to what I did in the winter?

Oh, I just know that XC and Track are fall and spring sports, so I was wondering if you played something in the winter.....

Alright, a little off topic, but what do you think football and basketball players' stats are (academically speaking)?

I mean I'd be surprised if Brooke and Robin Lopez got 34s on their ACT or if John Elway had a 4.0

No idea. That would be interesting to see......

Ah, okay. No I do not do a winter sport. Summer and winter are both utilized to get ready for the upcoming track/XC season.

All right, I was just curious. Sounds cool! Do you run the 1600 in track? What's your best time?

Ah okay. Yes, I do run the 1600 although I'm more of a 3200 guy. My best 1600 though is 4:13.
