I was wondering if anyone would be willing to tell me if I have a chance at getting into Indiana University, Bloomington...

I am a rising senior planning to apply as an out-of-state student...I am from Potomac, Maryland (right outside of DC). I attend a highly ranked public school which I have been told can be a plus, not so sure though. These are my stats....

Your ACT is right at the 25th percentile, which is a little low. IU loves a high gpa, though; it is a great predictor of success in college. Apply August 3 or as soon as you can after that date and you will have a good chance to get in. Get your ACT score, transcript, and counselor’s form there by August 3 and it will show that you are serious about wanting to go to IU and be a big plus in your favor. IU tends to reward students who show initiative and commitment. If all your materials are there August 3, it seems like it would be hard for them to turn you down.

Don’t wait until October/November or later unless you are very confident you can bring your ACT up 2-3 points. By then, their will be fewer seats left and competition will be much tougher.

Remember that the application is only one part of the process. IU can’t make a decision until they also have received your SAT/ACT scores, high school transcripts, and counselor’s form:

We practice rolling admissions and each application is carefully reviewed by our admissions counselors. The evaluation process does not begin until we receive each of the five elements that comprise a complete application:

So if you want the really early decision beginning August 3, all of that stuff has to be in the admissions office. You can call the admissions office a couple of weeks after sending your materials to confirm that they have received them. The number is (812) 855-0661. IU gets around 30,000 applications a year, and does make mistakes checking them in sometimes. If you call them, they can tell you in only a minute or so over the phone if all your materials are there.

so basically in order to try and be one of the first applicants for IU, I need to somehow contact my counselor and get all of my forms in as close to August 3rd as I can?

and yes, in my case I really need to be one of the first apps to be looked at.

You can only get the transcripts and counselor’s form completed and sent to IU by your high school. Download the counselor’s form, fill out your part, and take it to your school and see if they can do it now.
