senior
female, upstate new york
public high school

GPA: 94/100. I'm not sure what that is on a 4.0 scale.
Class Rank: 6/105. I haven't checked in a year, so that might have changed, but not by much.
SAT's: M 580 CR 570 W 550
Composite Score: 1700
I just took the SAT's again, though, so i'm hoping for better scores. and i'm also not submitting them to wake forest and providence, since they're SAT optional.

EC's:
-softball (4 years)
-basketball (2 years)
-soccer (4 years)
-yearbook -treasurer (1 year)
-National Honor Society (2 years)

I also have some work experience, if that helps at all.

Schools:
-Providence College
-Manhattan College
-Endicott College
-Wake Forest University
-Elon University
-SUNY Oneonta

any feedback would be much appreciated :)

You are likely to get into Wake because they won’t see your SAT, but no FA without the SAT’s.

Elon 50/50 depending if they you can explain and show your interest.

^Really, you can’t get financial aid without submitting your SAT scores? Is that true for all SAT optional schools or just Wake Forest? I had no clue about that, and I definetly can not afford Wake without financial aid. and also, thank you for your input!

Wake Forest awards merit-based scholarships to less than 3% of its first year applicants. Aid is very competitive and often limited to top few% and high SAT. I don’t know about “all other” SAT optional schools. Some exceptions do exist.

^ Oh ok, thanks for clarifying. I was thinking of need based aid, which I really need for me to go to there. If I get in, I’m not really expecting any merit aid

Just so you know, Elon is a definite if not a safety for you. My friend was accepted last year, with a lower GPA (wasn’t in NHS or anything), half the ECs, and a 1600 composite (24 on the ACT) so I think you’re good to go.
Wake will be a reach though not showing SATs will be a bonus.

padawank was you friend part of the Elon Academy for Local HS students? Or have a wildly sought after hook? Otherwise I haven’t heard of a 1600 SAT getting into Elon in years…

No, my friend was from an out of state (VA) private school- however, I double checked with her to make sure I got my facts straight and she actually had a 1740 (600/550/590) with a 89.7 GPA; sorry for the incorrect test scores before. However, I still think Elon is a target for you. Good luck!

padawank - Your friend is very lucky. But Elon is known for choosing students for their potential to both do well academically and to contribute to the world. They love students with passions that they can nurture. It’s very important that potential students know why Elon is different. Thats why sometimes you see students with very high SAT/GPA’s get rejected or waitlisted and students with lower scores and big dreams get accepted.

update: i got into endicott w/ presidential scholarship, manhattan w/ presidential scholarship, and oneonta so far.

i’m still waiting on the other three and i’m getting really nervous, since they’re probably the hardest to get into out of the six. does anyone else have any opinions on providence, wake forest, and elon?
