Chances Please?

Basic Info:
White Male
Decent high school, we send some kids to Ivies/elite schools but the overall competition isn't extreme
Major: some Social Science, haven't decided
Class of 2011, thinking about applying in fall

Academics:
UW GPA - 92 out of 100/A-, not sure how school converts to 4.0 but it's probably around 3.6
School doesn't officially weigh GPA (though honors/AP courses get a slight adjustment)
Took every honors/AP course available, taking enough SUPA credit next year to count as a full semester at SU

Standardized Tests
SAT - 800 CR/710 M/800 W (1510/2310) I might try to improve me math in May
Subject Tests - 790 World History, taking US and maybe one other in June
ACT - nope
AP - World History 5, taking Bio and US this year, Calc and maybe another science next year

EC's:
Cross Country/Track 3 years (team went to States once and we're expecting to next year)
Science Olympiad - going to states this year and hopefully next year
Latin Club 2 years (won some awards at regional competition but I stopped taking Latin because our program pretty bad and I wanted to take some electives)
Metric Club 2 years - we promote the metric system and clean a highway, not much to it
Human Rights Group - raised a lot of money, I might help take over next year as the teacher in charge is going to teach kids in another country
Model UN - recently got involved in this
Mock Trial - also just joined this

Awards:
NMSF is almost a certainty
Science Olympiad regional awards
A few school level awards

I can get some very positive rec's as well.

I understand that Carleton gets very good admissions and my GPA is nothing to boast about, but I do have good test scores. How good are my odds?

I think you look great, esp if your recs/essay are good. Would you be running in college? That would probably help. Are you from the midwest or elsewhere? You also might want to look at St Olaf- in the same town, not quite as competitive.

One thing about cross country is that age is a major factor in competition. The area where I live is extremely competitive in cross country (nation championship teams and all) and I have a shot at making it to States as an individual, but I could barely make Carleton’s varsity team (and they aren’t that great). My track times are also nothing to boast about because I generally miss half the season studying for AP’s. Athletic success might be a slight hook but it’s unlikely that their going to favor someone on the basis that they might be good at a somewhat unpopular sport after one or two years.
