Chances please??

I really want to go to Kenyon. I am going to be a senior next year. I hope you all can help me.

GPA going into senior year:
unweighted- 3.42
weighted-3.5
----i kind of screwed up my grades this year. I got all A's in my classes that were not AP, but my three AP classes didn't go so well. In AP biology and AP us history, I got C's, and in Calculus I unfortunately got a D. I was really close in it to a C, but i didn't make it. This year was really hard. My parents started dating other people. My mom quit her job almost a year ago and has yet to get a new one. My dad hasn't lived with us for a few years. Academically, up to this year I was used to getting good grades with not too much work. That didn't work this year in my AP classes. I just had a lot of trouble understanding some of the calculus concepts, and every time I felt like I understood it, I guess I just didn't. I could have gotten a B in biology, but I just sort of freaked at one point in the year and didn't turn in like three assignments, and it killed me. And, in APUSH, I was just really bad at the tests. I plan on doing much better next year, but my schedule is not as hard, and is more suited to what I excel at (English, politics, theatre). I had possibly the hardest schedule in my school last year, so that did not help. Ugh...

SAT:1980
Math-660
Writing-670
Reading-650
---took them in June, and I'm pretty sure I did a good bit better. Hopefully around 2100.

Extra-curriculars-Section leader of saxophone section in marching band. I was in Odyssey of the Mind for 7 and a half years, but quit last year. Not sure whether I should include this? Captain for my reading team for the last few years, and last year we came in 4th place. Future problem solvers, german club, girl scouts, multiple school plays (writing a one act next year that i hope to direct), and irish book club.

I hope to major in Theatre, and probably also in either English or Political Science. I am really passionate about theatre, and will be doing a playwriting apprenticeship next year that I'm really looking forward to. I can work really hard in things I'm passionate about.

My high school is not that great at all, but there are some good students. I'm probably going to be close to top ten percent when I graduate.

I just really want to go to Kenyon. I'm going to visit in a couple of weeks, and I can't wait. I've been waiting to visit pretty much all year. If you can help me, that would be super awesome!

If you actually were close to 2100 on your second testing and you’ll be in the top 10% when you apply, then your chances are very good even though your grades are not stellar.
If, on the other hand, your SAT scores do not improve and you are not in the top 10%, you become a tougher sell. Work hard this fall, and try to find a way to come up with an essay that touches on the difficulties you’ve overcome without making it sound like whining or excuses.

Also, when you visit the campus is going to be very empty. You probably wont get a real idea of the campuses typical liveliness as very few students are around right now.

I’m thinking you’ll be fine. Kenyon isn’t super-selective. Maybe raise your scores a bit.

Sorry to say, Kenyon is in fact a selective school. And it’s pretty rare for them to take students with Ds on their transcript, particularly ones that come so late in your high school career.

You said you’re visiting Kenyon soon? Are you interviewing? If so, be honest about your grades and maybe they can give you some advice from there.
