Chances please?

I am an African American male living in Brooklyn, NY. I will be a senior this year but I am unsure which school I will be attending. My parents are looking at a coop in long island so if we're accepted we're moving. If not we're staying here in Brooklyn. Does it matter if I go to another school senior year so long as my recs come from my old one?

Summer employee at Memorial Sloan Kettering cancer research center. I worked in the lab with post docs not in the hospital. I performed experiments and prepared samples for the postdocs to use. I ran transformations, maxipreps, prepared dna and bacteria.
Worked with a 11 year old boy I met over the summer on his weight. We exercised together, dieted, and developed a bond over our love for technology. He confided in me things he was worried to tell his parents. I eventually convinced him to work on his communication with his parents. Fell out of contact with each other though.

My friend and I started a group that create origami hearts for sale. We donate all proceeds to heart charities and we are looking to pass the group on to lower classmen when we leave. The group has only been operating for two years.
I have 200+ hours service

My boss from MSKCC says she is willing to write an outstanding recommendation for me as my work was phenomenal.

All of my contributions to heart health are influenced by the passing of my closest aunt sophmore year due to heart complications.

I want to major in engineering. What schools would you all recommend I apply to

Im looking at:
michigan, UCB, Columbia, Penn state, RPI, Rochester, UMASS amherst, UT austin, UCSD, UCSB, UMaryland college park, UCLA, UCDavis, Lehigh, Michigan state, Texas A&M

Also what should I talk about in my essays? I was thinking my aunt to show why my grades are so low even though thats not the cause.

Your list of schools seems to pretty bottom-heavy. Though your GPA is weak, your test scores and ethnicity will make you a competitive applicant for schools on the level of Columbia/Fu instead of all those state schools. Don’t be afraid to reach.

Bottom heavy?

Too many safeties and matches.

I concur with billabongboy. Being an AA will help you, as will your good test scores. Don’t be afraid to go for some of the Ivy League. Of course, whether or not you get financial aid depends on your situation…

I haven’t looked at Ivies because of my gpa. Also I guess I should mention I’m looking to get into the engineering programs at these schools.

It wouldn’t hurt to try an Ivy. Strange things happen; you might just get accepted :)

Any other input? How do I look for the UCs, Michigan, UT and a&m?

Also since noone has given me specific answers, could someone rank the colleges I chose for me? For example rank the schools as reach, match, safety according to my stats and status(URM)

And one more thing, I’m a mixed child but will they find out If I don’t claim white?

Also I’ll be taking 3-4 college credit after school classes at cunys in addition to the 3 aps.

Noone is able to give me anymore insight?

I thought the answer was obvious lol: Columbia is the only one worth wasting stress over. Like someone said earlier, your list is very bottom-heavy. And like I said earlier, add some Ivies, and take out 2-4 of the bottom-feeders you have there.
