chances please :)

its my dream to go to washu!
im applying ed there
gpa-3.52, but it will be a 3.6 after the first semester
sat- 2000
taking the hardest classes my school has to offer, all APs
really good extracirriculars- head of habitat for humanity, editor of literary magazine, editor of yearbook, cross country for 3 years, a summer internship in a lab

what do you think my chances are of getting in?

im also a girl going into engineering if that makes any difference

Well, your UW GPA and SAT scores aren’t too strong, below average for WashU. Looks like pretty good ECs. I think it will be a reach but applying ED will definitely help.

Good luck!

I don’t think your chances are very good unless you are an URM.

whats that?

Underrepresented minority.

well im white… is there anything else i can do to help my chances?

Take the December SAT. Hopefully you get deferred so you can show them you improved (a score of 2150+ should help your chances a bit).

Yeah, it seems very doubtful to me unless you get your SAT score up by 200 points.

Being a girl applying for the engineering school will help at most places. How have you done on any subject tests or APs in math and science?

^Doesn’t make a difference at Wash U at least. You can easily switch schools; if girls had higher admission rates to engineering, they’d all apply then switch.

^^I can’t speak for WashU in particular on this, but there are plenty of schools where it’s easy to switch once you’re there but where it’s still a bit easier for women than men to be admitted. The reason is obvious: most engineering schools have considerably more men than women and they would love to get those percentages closer to even.

my school only lets you take aps starting your junior year. and junior year we are only allowed to take two. i took ap stat and apush, i got a 4 on stat. i take math 2 and chemistry sat subject tests this weekend

also, i have experience working in a lab so i hope that shows that i am actually interested in engineering and not one of the girls picking engineering so they can get in
