I believe engineering is a harder program to get in to.
You’re a bit weak on the EC front, but that doesn’t matter for a stat oriented school like Maryland. Btw, Maryland doesn’t consider writing, so right now you have 1240/1600. Which for a competitive OOS like NY… is lowish I think your GPA is pretty decent though.

Don’t expect honors/scholars, but you’ll probably get in.

They will not take the SAT in your admission decision. They will take the ACT because your superscore is 31 which is @1360-1390. When you submit both the ACT and SAT they take the highest of the superscore. In your case your ACT is higher than the SAT, thus, they will review your application only on the ACT. SAT is moot.

If your 92% is on a 4.5 weighted scale that would convert you into 4.14 wgpa. It is important to understand that just as they convert the SAT/ACT scores to equivalence, they may also re-weight your gpa to their standards too. Students who say I have a 4.36 wgp is one thing, because nobody knows if their APs are 4.5, 5.0 or 6.0. UMDCP has their own scale for AP and honors. Students that give an actual % for their wgpa actually give a better perspective since you can multiply that out by even the lowest of standards by 4.5 to determine what the gpa is in a pt std not a % std.

You would def be in the Scholars ballpark.

I see no problem of being in from the NYC/NJ area.

Merit is a different issue, I don’t see a whole heck of a lot, since our DS was OOS also with just slightly higher SAT/ACT scores, but almost the same wgpa, plus more ECs and the amount he got barely pays for books for the yr.
