so if you guys could evaluate my chances i would greatly appreciate it. thank you!!

you'll do fine! just make sure you write an outstanding essay because that will make or break you. the rest seems pretty good, but in the end it comes down to the essay! good luck and i hope you make it! :D

I know the topic of essays has been covered in many recent posts and they are clearly an important part of the application, but I still have a quick question about them. Theoratically, if someone like ihaterunning, who has excellent grades, tests scores, and extracurricular activities that are seemingly above average, wrote an okay essay, is it very likely that they would be denied purely because the essay wasn't outstanding? Sorry to somewhat detract from the main point of the thread, but I'd really like to know.

I don't know that I would say very likely, but I can say that I know someone it has happened to. Someone I know had 1550 SAT's and was comfortably in the top 5% of his class and wrote an average essay because they assumed they would get in. They were denied outright and now go to a state school.

It isn't anyone on the board, it is actually someone I know in my personal life, but just know that it can happen at Notre Dame. It truly is that important!

I went to a high school where a large percentage of students in my class of 400 applied to ND. Only 20 were accepted. Thus, many people with outstanding stats and ec's werent. So, all parts matter greatly. Even the essay.

Based on the impression I got after meeting with my regional adcom, I don't think that you would be rejected with those stats unless your essay was poorly written, really boring, or incredibly conceited. I don't think that the essay I used was by any means outstanding, but it was a solid application essay and I was accepted. Just make sure you don't get overconfident about it, focus on writing a good essay and I think you're in. Also, since you mentioned ND is currently your first choice, it couldn't hurt to ask your teacher to include how interested you are in Notre Dame in their reccomendation letter.
