Chances - Preferred Admission for Ross B-School

I'm a female high school senior from NY. I want to apply preferred admission for Ross.

My SAT score is 2290 (1500/1600). Critical reading 740, math 760, writing 790. My SAT II score in US History is 740. I plan to also take the Math I and Math II SAT II's.

My class rank is 10 (top 5% of grade).

My unweighted GPA is 3.6 and my weighted GPA is 4.6. I have always taken the highest level of classes offered at my school (honors and AP's, if available at my small public high school). All of my final grades this past year were either A+ or A.

I have taken AP US History, AP World History, AP English Language, and AP Physics B. This year (my senior year) I will be taking AP English Literature, AP Spanish Language, AP Calculus AB, and AP US Government. (total of 8 AP courses)

I am an AP Scholar with Honors.

My extracurriculars include the school musical, the drama club, chamber choir, concert choir, mixed chorus, community service club, DECA club, prom committee, homecoming float committee, and Alpha to Omega. I have not held any officer positions. I have also been involved in USY for four years and I volunteered at a geriactric center for a summer. I also took 6 precollege summer, spring, and winter art programs at FIT. Other community service includes performing in musical shows for senior citizens, singing holiday songs at nursing homes, and participating in the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Walk at Jones Beach, NY.

I am a member in the National Honor Society, the National Thespian Society, and the Spanish Language Honor Society (LOTE Honor Society).

I have worked as a youth league soccer referee for four years and I have twice been awarded the best female referee award (league-wide) by the soccer league.

Thanks!

The issue is your UW GPA - that will make it difficult. Don’t know if strength of schedule or grades trending higher will be enough to overcome that.

Your UW GPA seems to be your only blemish.

I agree with the people who responded above that your GPA may harm your chances. Of course you would know best because the GPA will be considered in the context of your school’s difficulty and prestige.

But don’t worry about getting in as a freshman. There is honestly no difference between getting in as a freshman or as a sophomore. Obviously, pre-requisites are enforced when applying as a sophomore (calc, ECON 101, english). However, you will have no trouble getting in, as long as you maintain a decent GPA in these courses.

Don’t worry about being left behind: Ross’s BBA program is a three year program that everyone begins sophomore year. So even if you are not accepted as a preferred admit, you will still join those admitted as freshmen to become the Class of 2015. I even heard somewhere that BBA admits’ GPAs are “reset” after your freshman year . . . but I don’t know if this is true.

Good luck!
