Chances/Question!

Hey everyone,

I am currently a junior at a competitive all girls independent school in Washington Dc. I would appreciate any feedback on my chances of acceptance to villanova!

Junior- All girls private school
School does not rank or do formal GPA's but as of last semester my average was around a 82 or 83 (i know it seems low compared to the 4.0's and 3.7's that are commonly posted but the overall "average" but i think that it is hard to compare public school gpa's which are often weighted with estimated averages from certain private schools- just my opinion, please do not take offense)

I took the ACT in february with ZERO preparation and scored a 28 (reading -33, 28 math, 26 writing, and 25 science) i begin a tutoring program for the ACT and hope to raise my composite score to around 30-32.

My school does not offer many AP classes- they only offer around 5 total although i will still take the english AP exam this june.
my courseload including my courses for next year amount to
4 years of math - algebra II, geo/trig, algebra III and Trig, AP stats
4 years of english
4 years of upper school french- unimpressive grades- french is no strong point
Sciences:
Biology- 9th
Physics -10th
Chemistry - 11th
Forensics/Med Lab Technology- 11th
AP Biology or AP enviromental science -12th

4 years of History - I will be taking AP Government next year- my school does not offer AP selection for other years

Extracurriculars:
I studied ballet very seriously for over 10 years (6-7 times a week) as well as attended several highly selective summer intensive programs (3 out of 4 summers in highschool - i do not plan to attend this summer). I chose to cut back on ballet this fall in order to focus on my academics. I am still involved in ballet though not nearly as much as before.

I am competing in my state's Distinguished Scholar Program for Dance and i hope to have a good recommendation from a former dance teacher

Volunteering:
I spent a week last spring volunteering with Habitat for Humanity in New Orleans
I tutor once a week for under privileged children

I am almost 100% positive that i want to go into journalism and/or broadcast journalism

I know that this is long but i wanted to fully explain my situation and please leave me your opinions on my chances

even if what you say about your school is true, a B- will not look good to VU. If you get that up and get your ACT up several points you'll have a better chance. Everywhere is so competitive now so it's hard to gauge how next year will be. But as of now, I don't think you'll cut it. sorry. slight chance though.

New to all this so I hope I'm posting in the correct place!

My son is a junior in h.s. (very strong public school in MA) and recently got his first set of SATs back: 700M, 620CR. He has a 3.2GPA (3/4 are Honors level) and will be taking 2APs and 3Honor courses next year (senior year). He is on varsity crew and varsity golf and is president of latin club.

Can anyone out there estimate his chances of admission for me?
Want to go visit during April vacation but don't want to waste the time if it is not do-able.

Thanks!

Taychase09 - yes, try to get your "gpa" up as much as you can - since a little on the low side, really gear up for ACT or SAT, a good score will help the see how smart you really are.
Habitat for Humanity looks great, since villanova is very proud of and have won awards for their program (my D was admitted EA and they just sent me, the mom, a letter today detailing why my D should go, and they highlighted this). Can you do more for this organization? They are state they have the largest # of students involved in special olympics - can you start volunteering with individuals with developmental disabilities in some capacity, even if not S.O.? Hopefully you will ace your AP exam in June. Lastly, make sure and get on their mailing list early and have test scores sent early. Also, call and talk to people, make sure and give your name. I know when my D called the bio dept regarding the major, they definately took her name and could see that she had requested info from V, or maybe that they had received her test scores. Make sure and take a tour of campus. Good luck!!!

pattyam - son looks on track, see my suggestions for Taychase09. Definately go see the campus.

Tay, I don't think VN has a Journalism school, do they? I don't think they have a journalism major, per se. You might want to look into how much depth they can offer you there. Unless you plan on majoring in English?
