O yea and I'm an Asian (Japanese) female. I know that won't help much as a minority status, although Asians are a minority and it's unfair, but still.

i think u ave a good cahnce. u're sat scores are part of the middle range, i don't know what you're uw gpa is but i'm sure it's pretty good, and u have lots of ec. good luck!

Thanx nemo for your insight!

Ummm...anyone else?

You have a good shot. I think its funny that your sat math is 700 when you got a 5 on calc bc. Shows that sat's don't measure ability that well. Anyway good luck.

whats your UW gpa?

....you are in. dont worry about it. I got in ED CAS with infeior stats than yours (maybe because I am international).

btw, you beat me in SAT II Japanese..790. I am a Korean living in Japan, but I got so frustrated that i didnt get the perfect score even though I passed the Japanese Language Proficiency Exam 1 kyuu. anyhow, good to see a Japanese person. Good Luck! (dont worry too much)

theguy> yeah it's kinda weird...also taking in consideration that i took SATs in 3 sittings as opposed to calc test which was a one-shot thing, and i still didn't get so great of a score...^^;;

firewalker> i don't know for sure, but i think it's around 3.7~3.8 ish.

jhpark> lol. nice to see a korean person who's awesome in japanese as well!! the japanese AP test i was going to shoot myself if i didn't get an 800...it's really odd how ive been living in the US for 14 yrs and yet i get a perfect score on japanese, but still receive 660 on SATII Lit...and my SAT scores are pretty mediocre, esp. Verb and Writing...he he.
I hope (REALLY!!) to see you at NYU!!

Thanks everyone! Whew, that eased my stress a little...anyone else?

is NYU like ur first choice? or did you apply to any other top schools?

well, my first choice was Columbia...and so i did ED but i was obviously rejected. aaand...so now my second choice schools are NYU and Barnard lol. i even wrote about the impact that NYC had on me as an immigrant in the essay that i sent to Columbia (and planning to send to Barnard & NYU).
Yea, so....those NY places! lol

ooh man, then you've def. got a decent shot

Yay! you really think so? ^.^;;
but my concern is that my essay is over the word limit...im doing common app, and the word limit is 250-500wds, but mine's 611, taken out like 70wds already. Do u think i should restrain myself to 500wds and take out more details that make it interesting, or should i just go with 611?

and...the academic honors field on the common app say its limited to 150 char, but i wrote like 2500char and still it displays properly on print preview. does it matter? i mean, they're going to see the overview of ur honors in my resume, so shouldn't i go into more details there?

im guessin most of y'all are doing common app, so im asking...
...maybe i should start another thread...

i am not a real expert on this, but i am guessing that going way beyong the limit (which is the case for you) can be detrimental. those admissions ppl can be frustrated after reading numerous apps per day. afterall, essays and other subjective materials are for applicants who are on the standline between acceptance and rejection. as others mention, i think you have a great chance so dont obsess too much with the essays.

ok, thanks!! i'm taking ur advice. i am now at 580wds, and planning to cut off more with consideration.
but really...what are u supposed to write on your academic honors section? confused

isnt academic honor anything that is pertinent to ur achievements in academics? I just put down three honors which I had: Honor Rol, AP Scholar with Distinction, language test examinations. I guess this was my weakest area of all

yeah...but i mean, wouldn't the colleges see those anyways looking at your resumes, transcripts and stuff? why would they ask for the same thing again?? or do the ppls looking at common app not look at resumes? ....hmmmm...

...y dont u just call the admissions office? those ppl r the best to ask!

Good idea. i shall call them now ^.^;;
Thanks jhpark!!

I did the NYU app, not the common app, and went over on all the essays (not way over, but maybe 100 words on some)- I just attached the papers (not online). I got in.

Hmmm... interesting. thanx 4 ur input, catherine, and congrats!
