Sure, I'll ball park it this way. Stern is about sat 1380 act 31. so he is under a bit. Has some EC but no real leadership. Comes from a competitive HS but IBs are not in math. I believe "match" is 50/50 and I think, without knowing more his chances are less than 50/50. The 40% figure is arbitrary.(a guess)

Weighted GPA means nothing. When he said his GPA was low, he meant his unweighted (his 3.56), which is below average for Stern. So yes, his GPA--4.22 Weighted--is too low.

Is it really that competitive (GPA-wise) to get into NYU, or is it just Stern? Because there were a few seniors last year with non-weighted GPAs of 3.4/3.5/3.6-ish that got into NYU Stern.

If so, I'm shocked; I don't know if there're just too many over-achieving students on this site or what.

Well, their average GPA is higher than 3.5, but what really matters is rank. Weighted GPA means nothing because it is calculated differently everywhere...and rank is relative to difficulty of school and competitiveness...if a 3.5 was top 3%, then that's good.

id say reach. On the Stern Site, it says avg SAT for 2006 class was 1440 and UW gpa was 3.7. Plus you are applying RD which is full of IVY league rejects.

Can some1 give me chances at RD stern please

your SAT scores are below the average...but otherwise you have a good chance. i havent heard of many stern kids get into GSP but its a possibility.

SAT and grade-point are below average for Stern. GSP is a tough fit for a Stern applicant, most of GSP is CAS. Not enough IB or AP could also be a problem as I mentioned.

People who get into GSP can and do successfully transfer into Stern. I know someone who did it, and now she's working at PwC.

I've said this before and I'll say it again - of course, it's always best to have 3.9+ GPA and SAT scores in the 700+ range, but NYU takes a spread of students. Numbers give you a better chance, but there's still no guarentee. Only thing to do is to give it your best shot and see what happens.
