I started my own online business. A friend and I created our own software and launched the site. The business gets a lot of hits and generates profits. The firm is registered as an LLC. I am the CEO of the firm and responsible for managing our relationship with the distributors as well as develop the business further. By far my primary activity.

I conducted economics research during junior and senior year. The researched focused on financial literacy and socioeconomic classes. I have submitted the project to Intel STS and plan on submitting to a variety of journals as well.

I have been elected as a representative at my school's student government.

I have studied indian classical music for the past 7 years. My focus has been on folk music.

Internships:

I currently intern at a hedge fund in the Chicago area. I got the internship by contacting them myself (I have no contacts in the industry or anything). I had the same responsibilities as college interns during the summer, but currently only work after school twice a week.

I have also interned at a corporate law firm. Attained it the same was as the hedge fund internship. Worked there during the summer and prepared case files and conducted legal research.

Thanks a lot. Duke is near the top of my college list and would love to know what sort of a shot I have at the school.

Hey, thanks for the response. Yea my GPA took a hit (but primarily because of french....I am not very good with foreign languages).

My CR+M is a 1480 but my writing is a 700. Do you think colleges will factor in the fact that I immigrated here and not put as much weight on the writing portion?

I think you have an above-average shot. Your scores are respectable enough and your ECs show leadership and impressive initiative. You stand out as a go-getter. Tie those skills in to why you want to be at Duke.

You definitely have an above-average shot..

I don't think your GPA is that low for Duke, if your courseload is more rigorous than those of people with higher GPA's than you... especially since your SAT's are competitive for Duke. Otherwise, GPA becomes a weakness...

I got into Duke with a similar UW GPA but higher SAT's.

Thanks a lot for the feedback. I will definitely try and tie those factors into the Why Duke essay. I am also talking about my activities in the regular common app essay so they should have a good idea of my extracurriculars.

BTW, does Duke consider multiracials as URMs? I have no idea what black/indian is considered as one is URM and the other is ORM.

Oh well then I guess it won't hurt to check all that apply. I don't think with your stats that race will play a role anyway in your admissions decisions (by this I mean that I think your stats are good enough to gain admission to Duke).
