Chances RD

This is getting so difficult for me. I've always wanted to go to Princeton, but I realize that my chances of getting in are slim to none, and I love Cornell, and know that if I applied ED I would have an excellent chance, but I don't want to regret not applying to princeton. How do I look if I apply RD? thanks

SAT: 2300 (720cr, 780m, 800w)
SAT II: 790 US, 780 IIc
GPA: 98.5/100 uw at crappy public high school where it's easy to get good grades.
Rank: 1/180
APs: Only US History...5. Scheduling makes it so that you need to fulfill certain requirements before taking the AP in each subject, so APs are mostly taken senior year in my school. Next year: calc ab, bio, english lit, music theory

ECs: trumpet... brass section leader, principal chair in regional youth symphony, jazz ensemble, all county band, area all state band, various paid and unpaid performances in the area, take private lessons, give private lessons to kids in my school, NYSSMA festival each year, no all state though :( 9 years in all, about 10-12 hours per week, will submit a recording

piano: not as much to discuss... jazz ensemble (louis armstrong jazz award), unpaid accompanying performances in the school and community

Peer Leadership (drug and alcohol free service organization) co-president

National Honor Societ... Coordinator of Tutoring Program afterschool

Yearbook co-editor

Student council treasurer and mathletes... did next to nothing for those though, so I might not mention them

Yeah so essays and recs should be good, although I'm having a harder time coming up ith an essay topic than I thought, but I'll manage..

Will apply to the College of Arts and sciences, want to study history in preparation for law school

So will I still have a good chance if I apply RD? I don't want to think I gave up my shot at going to cornell (a school I love) just to try to get into princeton...

What are you writing your essays about? If they're good enough I think you'll have a great chance RD. If you really love Princeton, apply early. Don't let anything stop you from doing that because admissions at these schools are undpredicatable.

You have a great chance at RD, .. at most you will be waitlisted (the worst that can happen). Your SAT's are very strong.

ED, you have just got to be a guarentee. RD, I say 80%+, to be conservative.

thanks guys, that makes me feel better. I think I'm going to follow my dream and apply ED to princeton and just get deferred but have the satisfaction of knowing I tried. whether or not I get into cornell will fall into place. there's not much else I can do now except write amazing essays and get good recs and senior year grades.

One reason I'm hesitant about cornell ed is the percent of students who live off campus... Can someone discuss this? I plan to study abroad for either my entire junior year, or abroad for one semester, and spend the other semester in the cornell in washington program. i'm afraid that everyone else would have already gotten apartments together off campus and i'd have to room with a bunch of random people senior year. Is there any basis in that, or do a lot of people study abroad and therefore it's not much of an issue finding roommates? I don't really know how it works, if you couldn't tell...

Hurray for the Cornell-lovers who are applying ED to Princeton! (all two of us, that is) :D

Do a lot of upperclassmen really move off campus? I wouldn't have thought that!
