My GC said he'd be shocked if I didn't get in unless I completely tank senior year, or I really mess up the essay. I expect my grades to go up significantly, & Reed will see them because I'll be applying RD.

Chances?

Just a comment on your summary, not an assessment of your chances. The trajectory of your GPA is downward, and any adcom will want to know what's behind that. A pull-up in performance in your first semester of senior year will matter to your chances at lots of competitive schools, but your essays/letters may need to address the downward trend if the trend in the averages you report means you received some particularly low grades in core subjects.

Reed is a hard school. It will want to know that you will handle the academic intensity. And it will want to know why you're interested in Reed. Reed's admissions isn't strictly "by the numbers." It looks for interesting prospects. It will (in my opinion) certainly be interested in your application and learning more about you than the numbers you report.
