So I'm currently a freshman at WUSTL, did okay my first semester but not great or anything (GPA: 3.44). I'm premed, so the reason my GPA is kind of low is because i got a B in Chem, which is a real ballbuster course. Anywho, I was thinking about transferring to:

I was wondering what my chances are, and also if anyone has any recommendations for where I might have a shot at transferring into if these schools don't work out? If it helps my HS GPA was... well actually my HS didn't do GPA's, so I don't know, but I had an A- average so i guess ~3.7? My SAT superscore was a 2190, and I have pretty decent extracurrics (my main selling point is that I did a cappella in high school and am currently in a group as well).

Why would you want to transfer out of WUSTL if you’re a pre-med? I thought they had an excellent program. Anyway, I’m applying to Pomona too, but (from what I understand) they have an extremely low admission rate for transfer.

given vassar’s acceptance rate, you are absolutely no lock for vassar

what else have you done in terms of ec’s? if your a pre-med and your most important ec is being in a singing group, this could be a very big concern

brown you dont have a real shot at, pending the strength of your ec’s the rest of the schools are mid- or low reaches…if you really want out at wash u, consider putting some matches and safeties onto your list

you are free to disagree with me, but colleges like to see ec’s that reflect a desire or passion consistant with ones major or potential career path…internships and leadership positions in clubs that reflect said interests are important in establishing this…

some matches, again pending the strength of your ec’s, might be boston university, lehigh, perhaps george washington university

The schools you listed are very very competitive. I know it may not seem like it, but schools like Vassar and Pomona have transfer acceptance rates very different from their freshman acceptance rates. Plenty of students who could have gotten into Vassar freshman year are turned away as transfers. It’s tough, I think some matches are absolutely necessary if you’re intent on transferring.

As mentioned before BU and GWU are pretty good ideas. I’m not sure about Lehigh though.

WUSTL is an amazing school. I’m sure you have your reasons for wanting to transfer (I really hope it’s not for more prestige…that would be ridiculously pointless.) With that being said, the schools you have listed are intensely competitive for transfer. Especially Vassar with a 3% acceptance rate (the semester I applied 320 applied 10 admitted). Clearly your HS record is strong otherwise WUSTL would not have been an option. In terms of a capella group I personally don’t think it’s a disadvantage to your application. IT’S OK TO HAVE DIVERSE INTERESTS AND PASSIONS. I mean your only a freshman it’s not like your going to be able to a part of a major research team, so personally I think your fine without the typical pre-med ec’s for now. If you really want to transfer out of WUSTL and want to stay within the same tier of school you’re are going to have to wait at least 1,2, or 3 semesters at least to get your GPA up. I hope this was helpful and best of luck.

haaha my mom always told me that and tried to get me to apply there…

its great to have diverse interests rcl, however seeing a burning interest amongst the rest especially for something as narrow as pre-med is a different thing
