Chances @ Regular Admission

Ok, I'm not your typical 2400 SAT scorer with a 5.0GPA and a billion EC's who thinks he might not be able to get into Cornell. I'm actually wondering, I'm not trying to get reaffirmed here.

620 CR; 800 M; 640 W
750 Math IC; 800 Math IIC; 790 Physics
4.0 GPA
AP Physics B - 5 (only AP class I've taken)

Tested out of 2 years of math
Tak(en/ing) community college classes for Calc1, Calc2, Calc3, and Calc-based physics

EC's
NHS
Boy Scouts - Eagle Scout
Some other stuff, I'm not very worried about my EC's.

(Amazing essays)

Applying to the college of engineering. The big question, should I pay the $40 to retake the SAT and try for a better critical reading score? I got sub-600 scores on all my practice tests before I took the SAT and after. I don't think I've improved one bit after months of preparation to retake it this fall.

It couldn't hurt to retake it...I think you have a decent shot because you're applying to engineering and seem to be amazing at math

cornell takes your highest combined score, so retaking could NOT hurt you.

Don't get "cocky" about the EC's being particularly impressive because there are some rediculous students applying who have incredible profiles, but rest assured that you are right not to be worried as long as you have a few ECs that take up significant time in your weekly schedule (think 8+ hours or so each). EC's don't have to be incredible things. They just have to be things you're dedicated to and passionate about. You obviously are very involved in scouts if you're achieved eagle, and thats a great example of leadership and community involvement. You are right in saying that is a particularly good EC as scouts develops well-rounded, moral men. :p (don't I sound like some kind of commercial brochure?)

GPA is 4/4 unweighted? Thats, well, "perfect"

only 1 AP is fine as long as you took a difficult schedule for YOUR school. They say students at schools like that should take initiative by taking community college courses, so you're set there. :)

The SATI would be an average composite score for cornell, and your excellent math and science scores for your SATI and IIs make you a good candidate for engineering.

I say you have a pretty good chance if you write convincing passionate essays.
