I have 92.993 grade points
"I WILL BRING SAT SCORES UP!!!!!!!!!"

Well, first off, you didn't mention what school you are looking to get into. If it is CS or CIT, gl, and you'll need it. If its something else, you definately stand a chance then. Whats really hurting you is your SAT, as you already know. I got in with an SAT score a bit above yours. If you can, try to bring up your math score, they look at that more than the other two (but they still count the writing section.)

But yah, gl mate.

I'm guessing you are a junior? I would say CMU is a bit of a reach for you but you can increase your chances exponentially by applying Early Decision. Unless you boost your SAT's dramatically, I believe the only thing that would get you in are your E.C.'s and essays so concentrate on them if you are unable to improve a lot on your SATs.

Posting what school you are applying to will help too.

Cit.................

Yea I'd say it's a pretty big reach unless you raise you SAT's and apply ED.

can you list me some good satefy schools? I want to do real estate development.

Your local state schools would work well. If you are not concerned about money I would also check out Georgia Tech and the like. Purdue and Penn State might also be choices to check out.

bump......

You say CIT but all posts point to business...?

AcceptedtoCollege, please comment on my stats:

SAT 1: 730M, 640V, 670W
SAT 2: 700M2, 770Chem
ECs: Very Strong. Run a largish Internet company.. Head of School's computer club. Participated in Intel Science Fair..
Essays: Very good, professional editor worked on them.
Recs: Very strong from Physics, Comp Sc teacher and Counselor (principal of school)
Rank: top 15% of class

Applied to CIT. I'm thinking I'd go into waiting? Or you think I'd just make it?

Top 15% will probably hurt you a bit. I do not know how good your essays and recs are so I would probably SLIGHTLY nudge you in if I were the admissions committee if your essays either directly or indirectly showed me why you could not deal with such academic pressure to achieve top 10%.

Otherwise, I'd probably PRIORITY waitlist you and then accept you later if you still showed interest. Priority waitlists have a huge % of students being accepted later if they stay on it.

yeah.. i thought so..
My LORs stress on the fact that I'm better than my grades (my teachers have written this). Infact my Physics teacher has written a whole Para on why I am much better than my grades :)
My essay covers my involvement and experience in running/building a professional level company.. covers why i couldn't do too well

So I'm hoping that would be good enuff
What happens if u get into waiting list? I'll get admission if some people don't send in admission deposit?

Yes you've basically got it. Let's say we accept 6,000 students for 1300 spots out of 18,000. Obviously not all 6,000 students will accept the offer of admission and perhaps choose Ivies or even state schools who give MORE financial aid (though CMU will match aid from about any school if it's not something obscure like Kansas State U).

CMU tends to look at your applicant comprehensively and would have no problem accepting lower GPA's in the past. However, the dean of admissions has said that with the increase in apps we can now afford things like balancing out the female/male ratio by accepting top notch female applicants as well as top notch male applicants who are also well-rounded.

If you do get wait-listed or priority waitlisted, there is often a high chance for you to get off it if you still are interested. You can check our waitlist data out here somewhere but I remember it being more than 50% and I would DEFINITELY place you in the top 50% of the people who get waitlisted.

However, this is ALL me and my speculations. Please don't yell at me or start stalking me if you do somehow get rejected without a waitlist. Perhaps this means they got more than say, 5-6k of applicants who are top 10 and had great E.C.'s or they had a lot more people accept CMU's offer of admission.

Generally, have you seen a very strong Extra cirricular push a weak student ahead (like me, with a 15 percentile rank) ? Or will GPAs outweigh extracirriculars always?

When I'm talking about strong, I'm talking about say running a company where you have people working for you, and you are a technical director in a field directly related to ur major..

Yes but this is all in the past. I know it seems only a few years ago but a lot of things have changed at Carnegie Mellon for the positive. Though I'm happy about your company, it is not quite the super-boost. However, being a technical director or having tech-related E.C.'s when applying to CIT is very helpful.

Like I said, I really cannot say and if anyone here believes they can tell you what will happen, they are lying.

If this was last year with 15,000 applicants, I'd say you were in as your E.C.'s cancel out your Rank. However, this year I'd say low admit or high waitlist (rejections may be possible though :().

OK, let's wait and see :)
Can't wait for decisions too start rolling in..
