Chances: Round 2

So, it's almost been a year since I've posted my chances. I'm now a senior embarking on this "perilous road" of college admissions. A lot has happened since the storm of junior year has subsided and I'd like to hear your opinions on my school choice and chances. Time and time again, I've been warned about posting on CC, but it's nice just nice to hear what impartial third parties have to say, especially during stressful times like these.

Schools:
Penn (Huntsman) - ED
UChicago - EA

UCB
UCLA

GPA: 4.0
Rank: 1/435

SAT 2: 790, 790, 780, 710
AP: 4's & 5's on 8 tests

EC's - I'm going to keep everything really short and basic, because that's what the common app. is like and colleges just see what is on the common app.

Swimming: D-3 recruit, 4 year varsity, year round club swim, coaching, captain, various awards, Jr. Olympics, Far Westerns

amazing chances at most schools! just remember that it's hard to predict chances at ivies, but you're in the running for sure!! good luck!

ok thanks...

lucky_8910:

UCB/UCLA: Safe Match

you have an above 50% chance anywhere, and will get in to huntsman ED

It would be unusual to get into Huntsman without any language ECs, study abroad, etc. Hopefully you're not Asian using an Asian language because they are flooded with that. If you're language is unusual and you can demonstrate strength in it, you have a shot.

You are a typical applicant to top schools grades wise. Your ECs are average. I would focus on top D3 LACs for your best shot at top schools as a swimmer.

No, I don't have an unusual language. In fact, I'm Chinese applying with Chinese with an intention to also study Spanish because I want to study abroad in both countries. I guess my EC that ties in most with my desire to pursue international studies is my work with Amnesty International, an endeavor that takes up a huge chunk of my time and energy.

The thing with LACs is that they're all located so far away from major cities. The reason I put Amherst on my list is because I was invited DIVOH, which significantly increases my chances of being accepted there. Yale and Princeton pose the same problem for me, but I really liked the schools and i-bank recruiters also go to Yale and Princeton to recruit.

PSAT: 226 (NMSF?) YES, in all states that qualifies you. good job.

Penn ED Huntsman: Match to very low reach
UChicago: Safe Match
Harvard: Reach

Huntsman is as hard to get into as Harvard.

wow, very impressive

you have a very good chance everywhere.

thanks for the replies

12345678910

it will be a big surprise if you dont get in any of the top ones
PS: I am going to apply the same ones as your list of schools

thanks anything else?

People are underestimating the difficulty of getting into Huntsman. Still, it's only a slight reach for you. Apply ED to increase your chances.

What is your target language for Huntsman?

I'm Chinese targeting Chinese (because of my SAT II score) but I also want to study Spanish.

buuuuuuump

Huntsman's difficult to get into especially there has scores like you do. Also, a good chunk of people who apply have started their own businesses. It's a 7% acceptance rate. But still, those are amazing scores, best of luck!

When you apply ED to UPENN i don't think they allow you to apply EA to anywhere
