Chances (So Far) ---> UCLA

Desired School: UCLA
Status: Just finished junior year (11th ---> 12th)

GPA:
Unweighted: 4.0
Weighted: uhh... lemme get back to you on that..
highest possible GPAs in sophomore and junior years for my school with a wide variety of AP courses and other courses of some academic rigour
SAT I:
Not yet, planning to score high in one shot (studying my @$$ off, taking it asap)
SAT II (subj):
Literature 650 <---- wth right? tell me if i should retake it and just act like it never happened thru "score choice", yes?
US Hist 720 <--- it's been a long time, I really don't want to take it again, unless i should
E.C.'s So Far
Tennis, Varsity since 9th grade <--- my only solid EC
Mock Trial (11th)
NationalHonorSociety (shouldn't really mention, went to about 4 meetings and stopped going cuz it was a pain in the azz BUT i did help out in a few events)

I think that's pretty much it. I've been told that you can't really beef up your chances to get admitted in your senior year as in its too late. Obviously my GPA is my shining star and maybe my tennis, but I really don't have much to show for. I am aiming for a 2100+ SAT I score, so use that if you need it. It's not that I'm worried (should I be?) its just that I dont really know how this admissions bs works. Thanks in advance.

Should I cram in EC's or studying in my senior year?

get a good sat score and study during your senior year.

What do you mean by “study during your senior year”? For classes, SAT I/II? So, you’re basically saying I have a solid chance?

study more and take advanced classes to show admission officers that you are continually challenging yourself. Admission officers wont give you much credit for ec’s started during the senior year b/c they know that you only joined them to fill up space on the app. Your gpa’s good, and I think UCLA weighs gpa more than they do activities, especially when compared to berkeley. I think you have a good chance with getting into LA, imo.

chance me back pleaseeee

your chances look pretty good rite now

Academically you should be solid, especially if you get those test scores. Your extracurriculars are pretty lacking and would be the only thing to get in your way. If you’re a California resident, you should get in. If you’re from out of state, I think your lack of extracurriculars would make UCLA somewhat of a low reach, depending on how your test scores turn out.

Yes, I am and have been a CA resident for all my life.

However, what do you say about my planned schedule for next year?
Regular English IV (there is an AP course but I don’t really want to)
Journalism
AP Calculus (weighted)
AP Physics (weighted)
AP Government (weighted)
Art I (kind of a filler to pass time/have fun | already have art req down tho)

It’s kind of hard to decide on the schedule… Do the admissions peepz at UCLA look at your senior year schedule with intense scrutiny or something? cuz i could still change my schedule.

Could take:
AP Eng
AP Cal
AP Psych
AP Govt
AP Physics
Journalism/Newspaper

The problem with this PLAN B is that… well it’s a bit obvious… BUT i want to know… will it ensure my admission into UCLA?

THANK YOU EVERYONE for their help

it wont but it will just look good on your app
just try not to look like your cramming to pad the resume cuz it might look bad on you
also can u chance me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/739962-plz-chance-overachiever-rice-u-maryland-duke-caltech-5-ucs.html#post1062841319

GPA and EC wise, you are fine. Your test scores are not good, however. Especially the SAT I; since you are going to be a senior and you haven’t taken it yet, you better be well prepared. I’ve taken it twice already, which gives me a measure of my improvement ability. So I recommend you take the SAT I on the first month its available in the fall. If your test scores improve more, I’d say you have a decent chance to UCLA.
