Chances ??? Split Personality DO here.

I am really interested in majoring in applied sciences, as well as being involved with theatre and speech at the collegiate level. I know I have at least as good a chance as any, and if you don't feel like chancing me, could you at least suggest how I might improve in the coming months? THANKS!

High School Public
High School Type: rarely sends grads to top schools; in a semi-competitive state (not NJ, NY, MA, but not WY, or AL either)
Academics:
GPA - Unweighted 4.00
Class Rank: Tied for 1st (but the school's no Andover or Choate; try more rural-suburban backwater-unknown to HYPS-no Ivy since '02-kinda school)
Class Size: ~550

Scores:
SAT I Math 800
SAT I Critical Reading 800
SAT I Writing 800
ACT 34
SAT II Math Level 2 (IIC) 800; will take Chem, Physics, and World history in June and October (tests will be split up between the two testing dates)
APs: Calc BC, Physics B - 5s; Projected 2007: Chem - 5, Stats - 5, Euro - 4 or 5, Physics C - probably 5

Extracurriculars:
Class Council (1,2,3), National Honor Society (4), Science Olympiad (1,2,3,4), Quiz Bowl (1,2,3,4), Youth Symphony orchestra (1,3,4), Theatre (1,2,3,4), Forensics (1,2,3,4

Leadership positions:
Class Council President
Captain, Forensics
Quiz Bowl Co-Captain
Principal clarinetist, youth orchestra
Student Director, leads of school plays/musicals

Honors and Awards: NMS (for sure; PSAT score is 30 points higher than last year's state cutoff), will probably be AP Scholar with Distinction; 3rd/4th in State Duo/Dramatic interp; state top 3 in Scrambler, Fermi Questions, science olympiad; USNCO semifinalist; Hon. mention in state math competition; principal clarinetist in youth area orchestra, International Thespian Society (participation in every school dramatic performance since fall of freshman yr., including several leads), National French Exam Top 10 ranking

Summer activities:
Took linear algebra, number theory at state college; volunteering in the local township center; taught PSAT course for rising juniors; Boys' State

I know I'm kind of an oddball, participating -- on the one hand -- in SO, Quiz Bowl, and USNCO, while on the other hand also being heavily involved in theatre and forensics. I hope I can convey to the adcoms that I don't just do all these things for the resume; I should like to think I really do enjoy 1) estimating exponents and answering questions about the Council of Trent but also 2) fake crying and doing really cool blocking...'n stuff. So...chance me, please?

you obviously have an awesome chance of getting in, but i dont know how you'll be able to fit in engineering with theater/speech as a course of study since SEAS has so many requirements, at lesat thats what i've heard. if theater is for extracurricular purposes i'm sure it requires a good amount of time management on your part but you seem to be very good at that anyway. but who am i to say. anyway, i would suggest an essay that unifies your activities and highlights your central motivation for participating and excelling in such a variety of areas. make sure to remain humble in your writing tone, but not at the expense of letting the reader know exactly what you want to say and who you really are. also, be specific in your why penn essay.

Your stats remind me eerily of myself...wow it's scary how alike we are (extracurriculars, test scores, GPA, etc.)! I got rejected at Penn this year. Kind of surprised me, but that's how it goes. I did apply to CAS though; SEAS is known to be easier to get into so you will probably get in there.

^Again with SEAS being easier to get into....people don't really understand that.
SEAS is easier to get into IF you're qualified, but the level you need to be at to be considered qualified is much higher at SEAS than it is at CAS.
So for him, as he is clealry qualified, SEAS will be easier. But for someone with a 3.5/2100...CAS will be easier.

Split personality? What's the deal.
