Taught self how to play baritone, french horn, and piano.

Attended Stanford Summer College 06 / earned six units of credit. (A, and a C-)

Tutors middle school students twice a week.

My grades also took a dip sophomore year, about three percentage points from a 94 to a high 90.xxx, because of some family circumstances. I had troubles focusing in class and on class work, but junior year my average went back up to around a 92.

If I want to major in communications, or English, but I would also like to take basic classes in foreign languages so I can become proficient in other foreign languages.

Are these schools good for me? Where else should I look?

Well if you're including participation in health and symphonic band (which are pretty much unconditional 100's) and your real grades are C's and B's at a public school, I don't think you have much of a chance at all at Stanford.

Also, your AP test scores are low, and your SAT is bad (but you're retaking, so that might come up)

14th percentile (89% of Stanford Freshmen are at least in the top 10 percent)? 1820 SAT (substantially below Stanford's scores, which has 670V and 690M at the 25th percentile)? Two Cs currently? You have good ECs, but with those academic stats, I honestly don't think you have a chance at Stanford. Hell, I don't think I have a chance at Stanford and I have 35 ACT + 20/600 rank. I don't know about the other schools, but I suggest that you look for more reachable colleges. I know I did.

89% of stanford freshman are in top 10percent, if they r not, they r either atheletic recruits or kids from extremely(i mean it) competitive prep schools like the phillips or hotchkiss or st pauls...sorry to kill ur dream but no chance

USC is good for communications as well as UCLA and George Washington in DC. those would be better reaches than stanford. Fordham in NYC and Pitzer in Los Angeles also have good engish and communication stuff if thats what your into, and they are probably easier to get into. i think youd really like those schools, especially UCLA USC and Pitzer if you liked CA weather when you were at stanford haha.

If you really want a good communications department, find Boston University. Your rank and SAT score will need some work, however.
Finally, your GPA may be reweighted, as that makes no sense that in-school APs are not legit credit classes where you are.

Health and band aren't unconditional 100's. I work really hard for those grades.

SAT II Scores:
Chem - 590
Math IIC - 660

In school-high school AP's for me count as high school credit...they just don't count towards our average.

Anyone else?

Sorry, you don't have much of a chance at Stanford.

I agree with the above posts as far as Stanford. I'd say Suny Geneso is somewhat a reach/match. Good Luck :)
