chances. . .suggestions for how to improve them?

<p>I am a rising senior.</p>

<p>Applying to:
1. University of Rochester (1st choice)
2. American
3. U of Minnesota -Twin Cities
4. Case Western Reserve U
5. U of Miami, Ohio</p>

<p>thats all I know so far</p>

<p>GPA: my school uses a weird scale, but unweighted, only academic classes, about 3.2 ( Yeah, it's bad, I am terrible at math)
4 AP courses and many accelerated and honors
Rank: 79% (top 21%)
ACT: 27 - (didn't study, am retaking it)
SAT: 2000 writing 9/12 (M: 510 CR: 800 W: 690)
*am taking SAT II in Biology, Lit, and French in the fall
*also have a math tutor to raise SAT math score
*am also taking 4 more AP classes</p>

<p>APs: AP Scholar with Distinction
Euro: 5
APUSH: 4
US Gov: 4
APES: 4
Psych (self-studied): 5</p>

<p>Activities:
Policy Debate - 10-12th gr ---JV in 10th gr/Varsity in 11th, speaker awards on local circuit, about 70% record, two summers at camp</p>

<p>Student Congress - 10-12th gr ---National Qualifier for NFLs and CFLS, semifinalist at NFLs, 7th place in state, top 3 at every local tournament)</p>

<p>Speech - 10-12th gr ----double qualifed for nationals but chose congress, finalist at all local tournaments</p>

<p>Model Organization of American States - 11th and will do 12th gr. </p>

<p>Service:
not too much. I volunteered in kindergarden classes the summer before 9th grade and at St. Francis Children's Center all the summer's since then. I help coach novices in debate during the year.</p>

<p>Awards: Rotary Club merit Scholarship to World Affairs Seminar in 10th grade
Dean's List (Honor Roll)
Some awards from writing contests and this merit award my school gives </p>

<p>Other info: I am fluent in Russian ( my family immigrated here when I was 4).</p>

<p>Oh, I was also wondering about Whitman College, but I'm assuming it would be a high reach</p>

<p>get those math scores up to 650+ and you'll have a better chance, seeing as you've got an excellent CR score</p>

<p>you got good ecs and good AP scores...the only thing that you need to work on is that GPA. get straight As senior year 1st semester and really work for at least a B in math!</p>

<p>aim for 700+ on all your SAT IIs, 750+ if you can.</p>

<p>then rochester would be a great match for you! :)</p>

<p>will colleges have time to see my first semester senior grades before they decide to reject or accept me?</p>

<p>anyone else have advice? should I still apply to Rochester?</p>
