Chances/Suggestions - Nationally Respected Schools

Hi all!

I'm currently starting my last semester at community college and hope to transfer in the fall. I've already picked out a few regional colleges to apply to, and I think I would be happy at those colleges. However, I'd like to know what you intelligent people out there think my chances are of getting into a nationally respected school. I'm not talking Ivy Leagues, since they're next to impossible to get into unless you happen to have saved the entire continent of Africa from a giant robot or something. But I'd like to see where else I may be able to get into. I'm going to apply to Vanderbilt since I live in Memphis, but where else might be a good match? I'm planning to major in biology.

My stats:
High School -
3.96 GPA
28 ACT, 33 English, 21 Math, 31 Reading, 25 Science
Valedictorian (very small graduating class, not a very good high school, honestly)
I volunteered at the local public library and nature center throughout junior & senior years.
My school was a private school extension program, and it did not have any extracurriculars.

College -
4.0 GPA
Enhanced Member of Honor Society Phi Theta Kappa
Member of the Honors Academy, graduating with an honors degree
Volunteer with an animal rescue society, the library, Race for the Cure, Indie Memphis Film Festival, World Book Night, and church.

Continuous part-time employment since I started college as a receptionist, and now a medical records clerk at a heart clinic.

Also, I have an EFC of 0 and a screwed up family (mother, father, and sister in and out of drugs and jail) if that helps. Not sure how to work that into my college essay!

Thanks in advance for any help, I REALLY appreciate it.

I recommend applying to the UC schools, like UCLA or UC Berkeley. They have the benefits of a large research university, and are nationally respected. Plus, they’re known for attracting a lot of transfer students from community colleges.

Thanks so much for the reply! I didn’t know that UC colleges took a lot of cc transfers. I have a friend who went to UC Davis and loved it. Thanks for the suggestion. I love your username by the way. John Green fan?

Also, they’re easier to get into as transfers, which is part of the reason why people choose to attend community college first. And yes, I am a John Green fan. Thanks, and Good luck! :)
