Chances + Suggestions

I am currently a junior at Bronx Science, a prestigious magnet school in NYC.

I want to either get into a 6-year pharmD program or major in Health Science.

SATs:

2040:

650 (m)
680 (w)
710 (cr)

I will retake and raise both Math and Writing; I have scored higher before.

SAT II in chemistry - 730
taking math IC in a few days

91.7 Average

Not much of a trend. One 75 in a minor subject (technical drawing) - how serious is this? I'm not planning to major in architecture.

My courseload is not outstanding, but not bad either. I'm taking 3 APs next year and 2 honors and one college-level course this year. I have taken both Spanish and Russian since 10th grade. I will skip precal and go straight into AP CALC AB because my Alg2/Trig H course covers most precal topics.

One rec will be amazing, while the other one will be okay.

I immigrated from Russia with my parents as a Jewish refugee 6 years ago; however, I was born in Ukraine and still am a citizen of Ukraine.

ECs:
ARISTA: National Honor Society

Russian Cultural Society (9,10,11,12) Sec this year, pres next year

Varsity Cross Country (10,11,12)
Varstiy Indoor Track (10,11,12)
Varsity Outdoor Track (10,11,12)

Volunteering at the Nurse's Office - 100 hours

Tutoring Spanish (20 hours/term starting this term) (Arista requirement)

Junior Varsity Basketball Team - manager (9) (include this?)

Worked at an architectural company as a clerk summer after my freshman year

Took required Health Class over the summer after my sophomore year (should I even put this?)

Will do a pre-college summer program in Health Professions this year - a college course + shadowing a doctor at a hospital.

My only two awards are being Most Improved for track and commended for the psat.

My essays should be pretty good.

I'm currently looking at the following schools:

Boston University (health science)
Northeastern University (pharmD, undecided for health sciences)
Stony Brook University (health science)
St. Johns (pharmD)
Rutgers (pharmD)
Ithaca (health science)
American University
CUNY Honors

and, perhaps for reaches,

University of Michigan and Georgetown.

Please comment on my chances at the schools I have listed and suggest any other schools (safeties, matches, reaches) at which I should take a look. I generally like schools in big cities (I do realize Ithaca and Rutgers aren't city schools...) and am limited to schools in the NE.

How reasonable are my reaches? How balanced is my list of schools?

For what it's worth, UMIch admits ~ 70 % of applicants from my school.

Anyone?!!!

Georgetown: Reach
Michigan: High match
Boston University: Match
Northeastern University: Match
Stony Brook University : Safety
St. Johns: Safety
Rutgers: Match
Ithaca: Match
American University: Match
CUNY Honors: Match

You need some more safeties.

How about Mass College of Pharmacy?

I was considering it, and still am, in a way.

I have a few problems with it - it's like 70% women, its students have very low scores, and there is no way to switch into another major if I don't like what I have picked out.

Thanks :)

This is a double post from the College Discussion forum, but I still think that you've got a great shot at all of those schools.

You can really turn being from the Ukraine into an attention getter for the schools, too.

Thanks. Unfortunately, I don't speak Ukranian :(

But I think many colleges ask about our citizenship, so at least that will come through.

Anyone else with suggestions?
