My school doesn't have that many clubs really, and the only academic honor available is honor roll. No Honor Society, and the PSAT wasn't even offerred. Also, there are no AP or IB classes offerred. Yeah..that rural.

But there actually have been students accepted to Vanderbilt from my school, I think it's because I live in Tennessee.

But there's a special scholarship offered to students in my county, and it is a full ride to Vanderbilt. Yeah.. I want that bad.

I'm getting a recommendation from a teacher who used to work at Vanderbilt doing chemical engineering so I'm hoping that will help.

I'm not a first generation, and I'm not a minority. I'm just a girl from a lame school that wants to do something major with her life. I guess that's my hook.

You look like a very strong applicant! Your scores and grades are great, and although you don’t have AP’s, obviously that won’t hurt you if your school doesn’t offer them. My only critique would be that, though it seems like you have a lot of awesome EC’s, I would try to focus on one or two that are the most meaningful to you.
I’m in a similar situation myself, I’m applying to Vandy ED II. It seems like a great school! My school doesn’t have very many clubs either; it’s rural, and doesn’t do a whole lot to prep kids for college, but I feel like I’ve done my best to cover my bases academically/EC’s/strong recs, and I’m hoping to interview after I apply. Fingers crossed!
BTW, I’m on the West Coast, but I think being in state should give you an advantage! Good luck! :)

Oh my goodness, can I just say that I love you for having a school that doesn’t prep students eiher? I mean, my school focuses on graduating kids with barely passing grades, and they let the gifted kids slip through the cracks. But thank you so much for the chance and the tips! Good luck to you! :)

Any awards or honors to speak of? Seems to be the only thing missing. Solid applicant otherwise.

That’s the thing, my school has like none for academics. Being selected to the bank board and Giles youth leadership are kind of honors I guess, and I’ve been on the highest honor roll. That’s all they really have to offer. Like I said, I never even had the opportunity to take the PSAT to get any National Merit stuff. But I asked a guy who went to Vanderbilt from my school what honors he put, so hopefully that will help me figure it out.
Thanks for the chance :)

You’re in, dollface.
:)

Ah! Thank you :D

I don’t think you’re a guaranteed acceptance, but you’ll have a good chance. The low income will help you a significant amount.
