Chances. thanks

Sorry for bothering you all with another chances thread but I thought I'd give it a go since lots of people have! Haha.

I'm an international applicant from Singapore (asian chinese) but currently studying at a (top) all-girls independent school in the UK. Previously, I had attended public/state schools back in Singapore. I'm hoping this slight 'diversity' might work in my favour.

We don't follow the American system but for my AS levels, I obtained 5 As :
English (278/300), History (287/300- being remarked, might go up), Maths (300/300), Maths A2 level (590/600) and Chemistry (276/300). All above 90% (Oxbridge standard). I also got an A* for my French GCSE after about 20 weeks of half an hour coaching.

I will be keeping English, History for A2 and doing a Further Maths A2 this year.

SAT 1s and SAT IIs aren't spectacular. GOing to be retaking SAT Is this weekend
Crit Reading: 710
Writing: 660
Math: 720

SAT II
Literature 710, Chemistry 730, Math II 800
(considering retake)

Recs should be pretty good though I have only known the teachers for a little over a year. Am trying to get a teacher from my old secondary school to write a rec. A friend will be sending a peer evaluation which should also be good.

Currently taking extra drama lessons (will take LAMDA Reading for Performance Grade 7 or 8 exam at end of the term) and am continuing extra French lessons. Am also learning to play the harp (Grade 3 standard after 1 year). Not sure if I plan to take an exam in it though. Music is not a particular forte; I just play it for interest and enjoyment. I also play the guitar and piano for leisure.

Basically, I will try to emphasise my interest in the holistic human experience which I treasure as a budding anthropologist seeking to examine life as a dynamic whole.

I think you need to narrow your extracurricular activities and/or summarize them better into categories. I had to reread the long list several times to understand how they were related to anthropology.

Also, if that is your desired field of study, is Dartmouth the right place for you? I've never heard the school mentioned in conjunction with that field.

But your grades are very good. Yes, try to get those SATs up.

Well, Dartmouth has an awesome New Zealand FSP for anthropology...but that's probably irrelevant.

Your SAT IIs are fine, don't bother retaking them. And yeah, narrow down your ECs, not all of them are going to fit on the app and if you include every single one you'll come off as a bit of a douche. (Well, that's my personal opinion - it's quite possible the adcom thinks differently.)

Johnleemk, perhaps a better word is "dilettante."

All the little things like producing a video for your school are not so important, so don't bother putting them on your app. But I would say you're in, especially if you're applying early.

my new SAT I scores: cr 760 math 750 and writing 710

would a really poor writing score hurt my application? :( i'm shocked my writing turned out so badly again. i just can't write these american-style essays!

A 710 in writing should not hurt anyone in any application.

^ I don't think the writing score would affect your decision.

But yeah don't take my words at face value I sucked at the SATs. :(
