-expecting 2000-2080 in October.
*i talked to an admission officer from boston college and tufts last year, and both have said that for canadian students, it's sometimes acceptable to have SAT scores that are somewhat lower than the average. i'm not sure if this will be the case for most of the schools that i'm applying though :/

SAT II 700 Biology M
-Math IIC: expecting 700-740 in November.

-My school offers most of its AP courses in senior year.. 85% of the students in my year did not take any AP because there weren’t any offered for them.

Schools:
-upenn
-brown
-cornell
-northwestern
-duke
-rice
-emory
-usc
-georgetown
-univ. of mich
-tufts
-boston univ.
+my safeties are McGill and other Canadian universities.

*Intended major: Biological Sciences or neuroscience if offered (either way, pre-med direction)

My top 2 choices are UPenn and Brown. I know that half of the universities that I’ve listed above are reaches for me and only some are matches, but im wondering, **how much of a reach/match do you think they are? Let me know :)

Also- I’d appreciate it if you could write **accepted/waitlisted/rejected.

Thanks again!

-upenn - rejected
-brown - rejected
-cornell - rejected
-northwestern - rejected
-duke - rejected
-rice - rejected
-emory - waitlisted
-usc - accepted
-georgetown - rejected
-univ. of mich - waitlisted
-tufts - rejected
-boston univ - accepted

Sorry but I'm not being particulary harsh, you just need to get a little more realistic. Hell, what do I know, maybe you will accepted at some of these, but the odds are against you.

^^^^^^bs

the girl has a 93% or A GPA, in the top 5% of his class. Strong grades, and pretty good SAT score. Certainly averages to be 600+ per section.

She has very strong EC's, along with awards, and she shows passion and dedication to several areas: sports, journalism/photography (yearbook), and music.

I would say:

-upenn - rejected
-brown - rejected
-cornell - accepted
-northwestern - accepeted
-duke - rejected
-rice - accepted
-emory - accepted
-usc - accepted
-georgetown - rejected
-univ. of mich - waitlisted
-tufts - accepted
-boston univ - accepted

^ That looks more realistic.

to above poster: umich harder to get into than cornell?

yeah, your right. :) Umich= accepted as well. She is a very strong student.

Wow Cordiform, you sound just like me!
(And by that, I mean I'm also an asian-canadian female in Ontario).
Can I ask what your other Canadian safeties besides McGill are?
Also, why you think UMich (around 36,000 USD a year) is preferable over McGill (like 14,000 CAD a year)? I'm not attacking you, I was just wondering why you think its worth it, as I'm going through a similar dilemna.

to rbase, duffman: im just wondering - do you think that my SAT scores would bring down my application for Upenn and brown, or is it more than that? my friend had similar stats w/ lower GPA and less EC's (except she had a higher SAT score) and still got into brown. do you think that if I bring up my score, I would have a chance in those two? because really, the universities that i'm really hoping to get into are upenn, brown, or northwestern..

zipcode: i just think that umich is a better school overall than mcgill in my major (sciences). premed/med in mcgill is WAY overrated - ive heard this from numerous teachers and students. still, it would be my first choice in canada - ive visited the campus and loved it (as you know, it's in middle of Montreal, an awesome city whereas most of the other universities are isolated). also, to be honest, although the tuition is much cheaper in canada, i really want to go to the states and pursue my studies. i used to live there and i like it much better than canada. and as for my safeties.. queen's, western, and UBC.

well I say you're def. in Northwestern.

But UPenn and Brown's standards for SAT scores are high. The average applicant probably has a 2100 or something. Granted, I only have a 1770 and I'm still applying to Penn. So you do have excellent chances of getting in.

Northwestern is becoming a bit more unpredictable recently. Friend of my D's (top 2% class of 850, composer of musicals, SAT >1550, multiple APs) was accepted to Yale, Penn, Columbia, waitlisted at Harvard... and REJECTED at Northwestern. Go figure.

that SAT score is rele gonna hurt ur chances. im sry bu a 1980 will definately not cut it for the ivies. id say northwestern, emory, USC, Univ. of Michi., rice, tufts, and BU are all either matches or slight reaches for u. everywhere else, i would bet u either get rejcected or waitlisted.

The people in this forum way underrate Cornell and Georgetown...

Cordiform, I'm from Ontario as well, and what Tufts and BC said are drivel. Canadian education is same as American except we don't focus on SATIIs that much. Plenty of kids from Canada (there are scores of examples from past CCers) have over a 2200 - 2300 SATI score. However, truth be told, they got into Princeton & Harvard. So who knows...:)
