p.s. i wanna major in bio or biomedical engineering

I would suggest to bring the SAT score up especially since you are Asian!
Your essay is also key because that’s probably how you will distinguish yourself against all the other Asians.
Best of luck!

Since your hard stats aren’t too impressive, you had better compensate with the things that are more subjective (essays, recommendations, and the like). I’d say your chances don’t look great, but what the heck do I know? I’m a high school punk kid who hasn’t received an acceptance letter from any school on the level of an ivy like Cornell.

I’m a high school senior and my SAT score is a 1650 COMBINED. I went to visit & fell in love with it but I have NO CHANCE. you on the other hand, definetly do, sending in that Harvard project thing will definetly get you ahead of other applicants. I’m not applying anymore but if they see that you went out of your way to send that in addition to your singing, you will definetly stand out! Good Luck!

p.s. I think you have a great chance; have confidence in yourself!

How about me i think i might have a lesser chance lol
SAT1: 1880
SAT2’s: Chemistry 680 Spanish 750 Math1 680
GPA: 3.86
Community Service:none
Extra Curricular: i have no idea lol, soccer, waterpolo, pool, idk.
Ethnicity: hispanic
Essay: so so as well i dont think my engineering essay will stand out though.
Recomendation: good.
What are my chances lol

Applied Human Ecology (Policy Analysis & Management)

Catholic High School
Long Island, New York
Top 10%
Average: 91% unweighted
All Honors courses (No AP offered); Year 6 Latin; Special History Seminar in Grade 12

SAT CR 800 / M 750 / W 740
SAT II US 800 / WH 790 / M1 700
ACT 34

Extracurriculars:
President of TV Studio; Vice-President of local hospital’s Future Physicians; Auditorium Lighting Director; active member of Academic Quiz Bowl, Latin Club, Orchestra, Drama Club, Library Service, Recording Studio

Volunteer: Local Hospital

Essays: I have no idea.

Recommendations: I have no idea (they are sealed and it’s against school policy to share even if the teacher wants to); however, I do know that one of my recommenders switched with the one the school assigned, saying that after having me for three years it would be wrong of him not to write a letter - and he taught me in my worst subject.

So… do I have a reasonable chance?
A chance?
A hope?

nihongo hanashira masu ka? …love-chan, there’s no need to show off…-_____- braggy conceited asians are the worst…
and i wouldnt say i have no chance (0%), c’mon!!! im bound to have atleast a 10 percent chance!!

sorry, but i think you’d only have around a 10% chance. it’s just that with those stats, and your asian ethnicity, my school’s college counseling office would definitely qualify cornell as an “unlikely” for you, which means <5%, and the extra 5% is due to your first generation thing.

if you did any of the following things in your application, bump that percentage up a bit more:
you gave cornell a lot of specific reasons why you want to attend so much
you wrote an actual personal essay (avoiding the overdone “overcoming setbacks in sports” and “i got an epiphany while visiting a foreign country” topics) - and not a fake, this-is-what-i-think-cornell-wants-to-hear essay
you used the prof. recommendation, but otherwise don’t focus too much on harvard summer school in your application. it might sound impressive to friends in high school, but college admissions officers probably know that it’s a bit of a joke (pretty much anybody can get into the program, i went too). thus, if you make it seem like such a big deal, you look like an idiot who can’t get over a tiny “achievement.”

oh, and you said you wanted to do biomed engineering:
1st off, cornell doesn’t have biomed engineering as a major, it has bioengineering, which is slightly different. according to an info session i attended, they have biomed as a minor.
2nd, there are two colleges at cornell that offer bioengineering: SoE, and CALS. If you’re a girl, applying to SoE would help, since engineering schools almost always need more girls. if you’re a guy, CALS, because, overall, it’s a bit easier. <- good luck with that, btw. i just got into CALS for bioengineering as well, and it’s nice to come across someone else who’s interested in the topic!

Until the decision comes we all have a chance. Yeah, some have fantastic chances (1-read admit) and others have microscopic chances. Then there’s the rest of us who probably fall between these two extremes and are worried sick. XP

Country of Origin: Israel
GPA: Not sure, between 3.5 to 3.78
SAT I: R-680 W-690 M-650
SAT II: Spanish 800, Hebrew 800, Math I 600, Lit 680
TOEFL: 117 (out of 120)
EC: Not really offered at my school. Yearbook staff and “director” at school functions.
Volunteer: A year full-time with blind and visually impaired. Promoted after a year with pay, so it’s not really “volunteer” anymore, I guess.
Work Experience: Working since Freshman Year.
Recommendations: From 3 teachers, principal and the place where I volunteered.

Practically no chance, right?
Honestly, had I known, I probably wouldn’t have applied. I’m considering this school a waste of plane-fuel for the letter of rejection…

Following ur advice improved SAT score to close to 2000.
A jump of nearly 100 points!!! from 1880.
Do not take any test more than 3 times.
ACT was only a 29.
3.97 was actually UW and 4.30 was W.
Guys who are bad test taker like me, just hang on.
Got into some very good colleges.LoL. if that helps.
