Chances Threads...A Must Read!

I hate them and wish they wouldnt flood this forum. They are far from accurate and a mere way for people to fish for compliments so they feel better about themselves. Let's be real here, no one knows what the adcoms are thinking, so don't waste your time posting them up. I hope you other Bruins out there are with me on this one.

"no one knows what the adcoms are thinking"

I agree with you for the most part. More so for UCLA compared to a school like UCSD. Many schools these days have a point break down and there are point requirements that must be met in order for you to get accepted. At other schools such as UCLA you have people read your application and the decision isn't as point based as other schools.

There are many people that post great stats and ECS and ask stupid questions but should the site ban "chances postings", no. There are many people that know a great deal about chances for admissions and there are a select few that have over 90% chance of telling you correctly if you would get in or not at UCLA.

I only get ****ed off at the people that have extremely high GPA's,stats, ecs and act surprised when people post and say that they have a good chance of getting in. And there response is ok thank god , i thought only a JC would accept me.

i def. agree airforce1. whats yoyr major at ucla btw? maybe we could hang out this fall?

yeah theyre annoying me too. everything depends. they admitted a lot more people this year than last year. who knows what next year will be like?

my friend who has almost the same stats as me (4.0 UW, 3 APs, no sports, CSF, Key club, he had slightly higher SATs) didnt get in and i did. he got into Cal and i didnt. some people i know with better stats than me didnt get in. and im sure theres people with worse stats than me that got in too. nothing is certain.

and for people saying they have "great essays"...according to who? yourself? your, your teachers', parents', friends', silbings' opinions wont matter. you can think your essays are the cream of the crop, but its only the reader's opinion that matters.

just give 110% in everything you do, apply to UCLA (and all the other schools you want to goto), and cross your fingers.

you know whats funny. They are the smartest in their class, yet they can't use simple logic to know their chances.

dude..i knew others shared my opinion! Chance posters beware on the UCLA forum!

I think people can get some really good suggestions from peeps who have gone through the college process already

or from people who have taken education classes at UCLA like 'high school advising' and have spoken to multiple admissions officers ;)

ahem if you're really interested take education 143 - good class.

Plus, there's already a forum designated for chances threads.

People just need to freshen up on their research skills instead of waiting for someone else to do it for them, propsectives and entering freshmen alike. Some questions I can understand, but there are times where the same thing is expressed at least ten or twenty times and could easily be resolved by searching past threads, mulling around the UCLA website or just Googling it.
