Chances Thrown Away?

I go to a very competitive high school (63/64 students recieved a 5 on AP World exam), I take all honors classes and APUS. Generally I get a mix of A's and B's, weighted would be an A- or mid-low A.

I'm a junior, only have one AP test so far which was AP World, easily got a 5. Also I do a lot of extra curriculars and I'm a president of two important clubs, and have done internships with websites etc.

Algebra II M4
Spanish 5 Honors
APUS
Honors English (no AP offered until senior)
Chemistry

Here is the problem, I did horribly I mean unbelievably bad on my midterms.

68 math = Shocked

80 Chemistry = My first quarter grade was a 97 also shocked

60 AP US = I did really poorly, It will push my average from an 83 to c range, but my teacher is giving me a flat 80 and is deducting points from second semester to cut me a break.

97 English= Highest mark in the class.

73 Spanish = Dissapointing as well

Basically my semester averages are going to be screwed up by my low semester grades, I was having a really bad week, was sick, etc and could barely study yada yada.

I'm trying to convince myself that this is 1/8 exam sets and I will survive but I feel like my chances of a good school are ruined once colleges see these exam grades and my wrecked semester scores.

How can I break the news to my parents about the grades, my parents are pretty strict and in no way expect this, I told them I did really poorly and didn't want t talk about it but the report card is coming soon.

And did this ruin my chances in general.

Thanks, feel free to ask for more info etc.

If I work harder and do better (which I'm already starting to by overcoming my chronic procrastination) any chance of ED Tufts?

Please would like a reply soon.

Have you asked your counselor what they include on the final transcript that is sent to all your colleges? The vast majority of high schools don’t even list final exam grades, just the overall grade for both semesters and possibly also a final year grade (some schools only list one grade for the whole year).

For reference, my first HS only listed both semester grades, while my current HS lists both semester grades as well as a final grade for the whole year.

Yeah, i’m pretty sure colleges don’t see exams but these scores hurt my semester grades quite a bit, also I’m not sure how to break it to my parents, I’m a good student I never get grades like this and for all of them to be coming at once all of a sudden and midterms too is just too overwhelming.

You’re certainly not alone in this matter. As a matter of fact, this was precisely the way I lost my A- in Honors Physics (I got a C on the final exam, which brought my semester grade to a B). How much did they hurt your semester grades? I think as long as you can improve second semester, you should be okay. Also, if your school uses final grades (that are the average of both semester grades) like mine does, colleges will only use those in their recalculation of your GPA. So as long as you can push your average up with your second semester, I don’t think you should have too many problems. Besides, selective colleges look upward trends quite favorably, so long as your grades weren’t ABYSMAL to begin with :)

Thanks for the help, Its possible i’ll get one C but I talked it over with my history teacher and he is willing to give me an 80 and deduct the difference from second semester. I’ll definitely work harder to make up for this, what a bad week.
