I am interested in studying chemistry in college while pursuing a career in medicine.
Here are some of my credentials:
Unweighted GPA: 3.86
Weighted GPA: 4.86
ACT Composite: 32/34SS
SAT II: Chemistry 780, Math II 700
Class rank - Top 5%
Income: Above 250k
I am a 4 year member of the varsity golf team. I am being recruited by a few small schools. Won a state championship. I’ve received a bunch of honors and awards, like All Conference and Scholar Athlete.
I am also on the bass fishing team (actually a varsity sport… who knew?) and we qualified for state this past season.
I am a member of Natural Helpers, National Honors Society, and Student Council. (4 years- President this year, 2 class office positions)
I am a member of the Mayor’s Youth Council, a community action agency.
I was appointed to head the leadership development sector of a large community project.
I have volunteered weekly for 4 years now in a program that helps disabled children play sports.
I have led 3 or 4 religious retreats in my school, and I am on my school’s retreat team. ALOT of Church volunteer work.
There are other community activities I’ve participated in and awards I’ve received, not as notable though. (ex. won ribbons at county fair, excellence achievement in select classes, Illinois State Scholar, AP Scholar, tutor, a couple clubs, honor roll, etc.)
My GPA is not higher because my freshmen year grades were pretty horrendous, and my school uses the 93-100 grading scale. I am taking the most rigorous schedule my high school has to offer (minus 2 extra AP classes), and by the time I graduate will have taken 9 AP classes.
AP Classes so far: AP US History (5), AP Microeconomics (5), AP Macroeconomics (5)
AP Classes this year: AP Language and Composition, AP Physics C: Mechanics, AP Chemistry, AP Calculus AB, AP Psychology, AP Government/Politics
This past summer I took 2 college chemistry classes at Northwestern University. I received an A in both classes. This will go on my transcript because they are credit as well.
Note: I plan on majoring in chemistry and I have three 34s on ACT science, 780 subject test, two As in college chemistry, nothing but A+s in my high school chemistry classes, and a recommendation which is explained below.
Other than my counselor, and 2 teachers. I have great letters of recommendation from the mayor of my city (150k population) as well as one of the most renown chemistry professors in the country.
My essays are not amazing, but by no means brutal. I am a fairly strong writer, but for some reason I found it hard to find a hook with my life. I wrote many essays about my love for horse racing and my connections in the industry. My common app essay is about winning a state championship, but I use it as a symbol for my success and progression over 4 years of high school.
These are all the schools that I have applied to and a few decisions:
- Marquette University ACCEPTED (merit scholarship)
- University of Kentucky ACCEPTED (denied to Honors Program, merit scholarship)
- University of Minnesota - Twin Cities ACCEPTED (Honors Program, merit scholarship)
- University of Illinois - Urbana Champaign ACCEPTED (Honors Program)
- University of Michigan ACCEPTED
- The Ohio State University
- University of Wisconsin - Madison
- Northwestern University (letter from head of Chemistry department, legacy, and already taken classes)
- University of Notre Dame
- Vanderbilt University
- University of Pennsylvania - great interview
- Cornell University
- Dartmouth College - bad interview, not that interested anymore
- Duke University - average interview
- University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
I will definitely chance back everyone who took the time to read this!
Thank you so much!
