Chances to a very wide range of schools

I'm a junior from the suburbs of NYC at an all girls catholic private school. I'm white, Catholic and my school is pretty prestigious. I love how this is going...
Anyway. I had some trouble Freshman year (i was really apathetic), but I've brought up my grades tremdously since then.

My school doesn't do class rank. It's out of a 5.0 scale, and they said that they can't convert it to a 4.0 scale because it "isn't right". Freshman year I had no honors and 3.345. Sophmore year I had 2 honors and a 3.757. Junior year I have all honors but 1 (couldn't take the 1 AP offered because I didn't take it in Soph year) and I have an 4.654. Next year I am taking AP English, AP Spanish & AP Physics. Freshman year is VERY low (almost a B+) but colleges don't really focus on it, right? I know NYU doesn't.

Extra cirriculars. I've been doing Soup Kitchen & Social Action since I was a freshman. I started the newspaper in Sophmore year and I'm going to be one of the Editors next year. I run Spring Track since Sophmore year and Cross Country since Junior year. I'm a Peer Minister and I tutor Chemistry and Physics since Junior year. I went to Parsons School of Design Pre-College in Sophmore Year and I'm going to Stanford U Newspaper thing this summer. I work during the year at Weight Watchers (I lost 55lbs over sophmore year) and over the summer at a cell phone distributor.

I am getting very good reccomendations from my Chemistry teacher and my Art History teacher, as well as my Guidance Counseler. I plan on majoring in Art History. I'm an "athletic scholar", I know I'll be in the NHS and I'm hoping to get a scholarship from this Italian society in my neighbotrhood.

I got a 630 on the Chemistry SATII last year. This year, I'm taking Math I & Lit (hoping to get 680+). I got a 1750 on the PSAT (1440 first time around when I was in the apathetic stage), but I've been studying a lot and hoping to get a 1900-2100+ on the SAT in April. I'm taking the ACT next September.

I'm applying to Wellesley early decision. I'm really, really scared I won't get in. I'm hoping they'll see that I've matured and turned my life around and whatnot.

Other schools I'm appliyng to:
UPenn (SUPER REACH)
Stanford (SUPER REACH)
NYU
BU
Bryn Mawr
USF
Fordham

a 3.3/5 is a B+? Even with regard to your school's 5-point system, id imagine it to be a C...3.3/5 is roughly 66, or D.

Anyways your junior year grades are fantastic, and will really help you since its the year that counts most. Try to do some research and find some schools that dont look at first year marks (UCs for example).

Dont waste your time applying to Penn and Stanford unless you get 2100+ on the SAT. You have very good chances at all the other schools on your list. Personally, I wouldnt apply to USF - there are plenty of other public safeties with warm climates that offer better academics. Id pick UCF or FIU over USF if you want to study in Florida.

At my school (Unweighted):
3.0 = B
3.5 = B+
4.0 = A-
A = 4.5
A+ = 5.0

I'm not sure if you're talking about another school, but USF = University of San Francisco

is UCF more of a commuter/suitcase school than some of the other public FL schools?

UCF is definitely a commuter school. Really, only UF and FSU aren't among the public schools-schools like FIU, FAU, UNF, USF etc. are largely commuter.

wow its basically impossible to fail/ get a C, D at your school with that marking scheme.

Oh San Fran, i thought u meant South Florida...anyways, check out USD - very similar and also Jesuit.

You'd be totally wasting your time and money appying to UPenn and Stanford given your stats and projected SAT scores. Better to apply to a couple of schools that are slight reaches or matches, in other words, schools that you have a chance of getting into. Take a look at the schools below. They're all about in your ballpark.

Kenyon
Connecticut College
Boston College
University of Richmond
Univ. of Rochester
NYU
Lehigh
Case Western
Trinity
Bucknell
Dickinson College
Gettysburg College
Lafeyette
Franklin and Marshall
College of NJ
Sarah Lawrence

jsmith (or anyone else...), do you know what kinds of stats are needed for an out of state student at FSU? thx

if you apply to bryn mawr, apply to sarah lawrence and maybe mount holyoke
