Here is my situation, I have thought for YEARS that finance was what it wanted to do. So sure in fact that i ended up at Bentley University, which for those of you that dont know is an all business school. I had a sort of rough application process and didnt get into some of the schools i was dead set on going to originally. I have essentially changed my mind big time and am now fairly certain i want to go to law school, and would like to complete a liberal arts degree such as history and poly sci. I have no problem with bentley as a school, but am somewhat hamstrung by its relative lack of liberal arts choices.

I am not 100 sure i want to transfer and would be happy at bentley if i chose to stay, but i would like to evaluate all of my options. As a result of this i intend to apply to top flight schools, as i would only consider an "upward" transfer. Below is a "long list" i threw together which i expect to substantially whittle down by crunch time. For schools to which it matters i would be applying to the "liberal arts" college. When i applied last year to the schools i note i applied to the business school if applicable. Any chances or general advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and happy holidays!

BC(rejected last year)
Cornell(rejected last year ED from the AEM program)
Brown
Villanova(Extended waitlist, ultimately rejected)
UVA(rejected)
Michigan(waitlisted/rejected...many family legacies..recieved a personalized, handsigned rejection letter...)
Dartmouth
UPenn
Duke
Georgetown(Aunt went there)

The stats:
1st semester GPA: 3.74
SAT I: 1360/1600 2030/2400
SAT II: US History: 670 Lit: 610
HS GPA: 3.4
EC's: very strong point, with 1 that could be considered a hook(refereed Div 1 soccer since i was 16)

Truthfully, I’d think your chances are not going to be fantastic for many of the schools you’re looking at. A 3.74 is great, but since you’re applying for sophomore status, colleges will look at your HS stats quite heavily. As you’ve already been rejected at quite a few of your schools, you sort of know where they stand. However, if you apply for junior status and have a similar GPA, then I’d say your chances would be pretty good (well other than some of the Ivies on your list, but that’s just simply based on the low acceptance rate in general).

Ditto what akalboy said: Your HS stats are heavily considered for sophomore transfers. You stand a chance as a junior transfer, assuming you keep a similar GPA, but as of now, I don’t think you’ll have much success.

Also, with all due respect, I could see how playing D1 soccer would be a major selling point, but refereeing doesn’t really seem like a hook.

Thanks for the candid responses guys. To reiterate my position, i am perfectly happy with Bentley and fully realize that my list is full of reaches. As a result of this i would only consider transferring if it were to a superior school.

I was not aware as to the extent of the weight that HS year grades/EC’s still had on the soph year transfer process. If this is the case i will list below some more of my hs stats/ EC’s. Thanks for the help so far, if anyone could provide chances for specific schools(especially BC, Mich, UVA, or Cornell) i would greatly appreciate it.
