Chances for an in-state white male?

Thanks.

Hmm... anyone?

I had 1400s SATI, ranked 4/200 and had lots of ECs. I got into Cornell but waitlisted at Columbia. That was reg dec though, I prob wouldve gotten in early. You should get in.

50, wherelse were u accepted?

Thanks for the reply, 50.

If I were on the admissions board, I've give you the nod. But I ain't, so let's hope they have a similar thought process...

Columbia might be a slight (READ:slight) reach for you i guess cuz its selectivity kinda skyrocketed in the last few years ....but..you still might get in..

have you considered Cornell?? I think you can most definitely get a 'fat package' from Cornell as its acceptance rate is 29 -30% ish. as opposed to Columbia's 13%....but then again, you're doing ED...so an acceptance from Columbia may not be THAT elusive for you...

Yeah, I'm applying to Cornell regular decision, but Columbia has always been by far my first choice. Thanks again for the responses.

Anyone else?

i think you're thought process is good... if you like columbia that much (i want to apply to but am kinda scared) then definitely do ED there... and going cornell reg is a good choice because its a top tier school also and you, don't quote me on this, are very qualified there. you might consider adding schools like penn, brown, and/or dartmouth to your list if you're into the ivy's.. think about maybe duke/NW/chicago and schools along those lines for non ivy top-tier schools... but don;t sweat, you'll more than likely be going to a great university next fall

as far as columbia... i can't say you're in because columbia is one of the most inconsistent places in the US, but they are definitely going to strongly consider you

wow finally someone else thats taking SUPA writing 105 :)

Yes, I'm taking it, and I hate it heh. I was supposed to be in AP English Lit but my school somehow manages to schedule all senior APs during periods 1-3 so I really had to pick and choose.

Wow I'm surprised with all the relatively positive comments. No one has completely shut me down yet :).

question- on your college apps do you put that you are enrolled at syracuse university (in addition to it appearing on your hs transcript)?

i was told to put SUPA classes as enrollment at syracuse on applications

yes i hate it too, it is killing my gpa as well

so you are getting your transcript sent from syracuse? how long does this take?

well we dont have an official transcript until the end of the first semester, so I guess i will just send it wherever i get in

wont that delay your admissions decision/complete application status for rolling and early app schools?

for early we cant send it in since we dont have one yet (I will find out my admissions decision before my 1st semester is over)- I am sending out my other college transcript to all my schools i think.

I rarely comment on these, but you look great to me. Have challenged yourself, have pursued a few interests in depth. (Using the music for charity struck me.) There is always that element of chance, but I'd be surprised if you don't get in ED as long as your application really is a good reflection of you. Just put as much effort into the application as you have into your high school career. You might include a CD of your jazz guitar, if you haven't thought of that already.

I think you're smart to apply ED, and that it will give you an advantage. Even if for some reason you get deferred, they will know Columbia is your first choice. There's always the unlucky chance they have a jazz guitarist from Idaho, with equally good stats, who also plays good football, apply ED. But if you don't get into Columbia, I predict you will get in somewhere excellent.

Thanks for the kind words, sac.
