Chances to Fu Foundation

Hello, everyone. I discovered this treasure-forum today, so as you understand I am a new member. Congrats to the creators of this very useful forum.

So here goes it. I just finished the first year of International Baccalaureatte (IB1), and in the new school year I will be atteding IB2 (the final year at school). Ohh, I forgot to mention that I am an international student from Greece. I am very interesting in coming to the states an specifically at New York City attending the School of Engineering at Fu Foundation. So, I am giving a short resume and I would be pleased if youtold me what are my chances.

I finished IB1 with the following grades:
-Maths High Level: 6/7
-Physics High Level: 7/7
-Chemistry HL: 5/7
-Modern Greek A1:6/7
-English B2:6/7
-Bus&Management:5/7

-Total:35/42

I think that my Letters of Recommendation will be very good as well as my Personal Statement (Essay). I have completed 150 hours of volunteer work with the CAS Program of IB.

My SAT I scores are:
-CR: 460
-Writing: 500
-Mathematics: 740

CR and Writing does not sound that good but bear in mind that it was very difficult for me as American is not my native language.

My SAT II scores are:
-Maths II: 750
-Physics: 750

Honours: I have been awarded by my school an 800$ scholarship due to my performance in mathematics and also I have many other mathematical accomplishment as I have made it many times through the round of the competitions that the Hellenic mathematical society annually organizes. Specially, this year I was invited to participate at the National Mathematical Olympiad, which puts me among the top 50 student of my Grade at maths. I have also been awarded due to my performance at the Kangaroo mathematical competition.

Language certificates: I have got a 112 at TOEFL, and I also have a Proficiency in English. I also speak fluently German and I have a B2 certificate.

Computer Certificates: By Cambridge University at Microsoft Office.

So what do you think can I make it there?

American isn’t a language. :P

I’m not very well knowledged in terms of international applications however I do know they have a much tougher time than Americans in getting into college. Columbia University is very selective and with a combined total SAT score of 1700 I don’t think your chances are that great. Also, what are your extracurricular activities besides those math ones?

Good luck, but honestly, I think your SAT scores are going to need to improve dramatically for you to be competitive. (then again, as I said, I don’t know much about international acceptances, so take my comments with a huge grain of salt)

Please someone with knowledge about international appilicants chance me. I promise to chance back.

Fellow international here. I think your SAT is way too low for an international. You should probably aim for at least 2100-2200+ to be competitive at Columbia. I don’t know what to think of your IB score. It’s decent, but certainly doesn’t have the ring of a 40+ score. Are you near the top of your class?

Thanks for your reply. I am No.1 from those who have the same programm as me. As for the SAT’s how can I improve them so match. CR an WR are both very hard for me that English isn’t my native language. Do you think that my math distinctions will count a lot?
