Chances to get in ED?

For a long time now I've wanted to go to CMC, but I realize that it is very selective. I'm trying to decide whether to do ED, specifically I'm wondering if I have a good chance of getting in ED.

Also, I'm assuming an interview would be a positive thing, correct?

Scores:
Act Composite- 32
GPA - 4.25W (Grades 10-12), 4.05W (Grades 9-12), 3.75UW (Grades 9-12)

Freshman year there were no Honors/AP classes available. Sophomore year I took the only two Honors/AP classes available and Junior year I am taking four. I expect to take AP Microeconomics, AP Gov, AP Stats, Honors Spanish, AP Language, and Honors Physics for Senior year.

APs(so far): AP Euro - A, AP Psych - A, AP US History - A, AP Environmental Science - A, AP Lang - B/ A-
Honors/ Advanced - Honors Chemistry -B, Adv English 10 -A

Got a 3 on the AP Euro test . I probably wont record that score when applying to colleges. The rest of the AP tests I will be taking this spring.

Extracurriculars:

-Played Soccer for 10 years and played for the highschool JV team.
-Karate for 10 years, competed in national tournaments
-Volunteer at my local museum where I give tours and run the cash register and help young students on schools projects (practice my public speaking skills as well as my money handling skills)
-Founded schools first "Investment Club"
-Have been actively participating in the stock market for over a year
-Taking a summer business course at a local JC
-Internship at a start up company that aims to educate students about the importance of understanding finance and business.

I realize I am lacking in this area in number of activities, but I think it's important that the activities I do spend time on are relevant to my interests and major. Hopefully this focus of activities is looked upon in the same light as the applicants with many more, but diverse, activities

Clubs/Awards:

Young Republican Club
California Scholarship Federation
Multiple Renaissance Awards throughout the school year for academic achievement
Teacher-Given Award for Hard Work and Effort (forget the name of it)
Investment club ( founder)

Any comments would be appreciated! Thanks

You’ve posted this thread about 5 times. You honestly think you’ll get a different answer here?

You probably have one legitimate leadership position. I think your ACT/GPA are fine but I would worry about your ECs (again, leadership). Also, “money-handling” is hardly a skill. Just list the work experience as is.

An interview can go either way. As of now, I would suggest that you ahead and do it because you’re definitely not a shoo-in. Just be aware that it’s more so tailored for the college to analyze how your personality will fit into CMC’s culture. Don’t try to impress them by being a finance-spitting machine. You’re still in high school–show that you’re light-hearted with a little side of ambitious.

What’s your ethnicity? Are you applying for financial aid?

What company did you intern at?

Hi! I might worry about leadership a little bit and the 3.75 gpa is a tad low, but your ACT looks good! On my chance thread, everyone kept telling me that my ECs had to be geared towards what I want to major in, do you know if that’s true? I thought if I just showed leadership and dedication to a field, not necessarily a major, that would be enough… haha well anyways good luck and chance me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1673832-will-chance-back-chance-me-for-cmc-barnard-bryn-mawr-columbia-stanford-cornell-umich-stern.html#latest

Also did you get an interview? I looked on the website and they’re all filled…

I apologize for posting this again. Some of my ECs changed and my ACT score changed, so I wanted to see how you guys thought that affected my chances.

Vballgurl: In regards to the ECs, I have always heard that it’s best to stick to a particular area and invest your time there rather than diversifying. I’ve spent a lot if time looking at chance threads and other sites and IMO you’re a strong applicant anywhere and have a good shot at getting admitted anywhere bar HYPS.

I think CMC cares less about test scores and grades, instead focusing on your leadership potential. If you can, an interview gives you the opportunity to show admissions who you are as a person and how you would fit into CMC.

Something interesting I heard from my interviewer is that they are keen to students who demonstrate interest in CMC ie: emails, campus tours, interviews.

Carotid: I found the interview to be a mix between evaluative and informational. We spent 30 or so minutes discussing me and 30 or so minutes discussing my questions. The whole time she was writing stuff down on a clip board, so I’m sure in some way it affects admissions.

Right, interviews should have an impact on admissions.

I think this is because they tend to admit students who have already done plenty of self-selection throughout the process (40% of the class is usually filled by ED students). IMO, that’s how they maintain such a satisfied student body. They ranked #1 yet again for Princeton Review’s “Their students love these colleges” category.
