I am a undergraduate student in a well known mexican university (ITESM) i am studying mechatronics engineering and i am looking forward to get into grad school at MIT or stanford, i think a MS in mechanical engineering will be the best fit for me, i plan to graduate with 3.8/3.9 GPA (97/100) and with honors, will it be hard to get into a good university like this? considering i have a significantly high GPA and with several recommendation letters by my professors also with some research background, will i be treated negatively just because i am mexican?... my TOEFL score is above 600

Yes, it is difficult to get into MIT. It’s one of the best and most prestigious engineering schools in the country.

No, you won’t be treated negatively because you are Mexican. In fact, grad programs in engineering like to attract underrepresented students, and Latinos are underrepresented in engineering.

We can’t estimate your chances though. Nobody can. The best thing to do is just apply to the program(s) you want and wait to see what happens.
