I am wanting to go to Texas A&M and major in Mechanical Engineering, I am currently going into my senior year ranked 41/350, which is top 12% (not top 10% sadly...). I have already taken 2 AP classes, and am taking about 3 more next year. I haven't taken my SAT or ACT yet, but I have taken a practice one. I made about a 1350 on reading and math section, not to good on reading.. I was wondering what my chances are to get in to TAMU with my current grades and scores. Although I am hoping to take my SAT until I get a 1400 math and reading score. I'm not into extra curricular activities, but I think my ranking and scores should be fine. Leave me a comment on my chances and what I could do to improve them if I don't have the best chances.

First, try and get your reading score up on your SAT. You also might want to look into SAT subject tests.

And I’m going to put this in all caps to emphasize: YOU NEED EXTRACURRICULARS. Your scores do not make up for it. You need at LEAST 2, probably 3-5, activities you participate in to show your involved. And I would also suggest at least 1 leadership position. Seriously, that’s a big part of what colleges look for.

If you live in texas, you are automatically accepted to a&m if you are top 25% and have math+reading > 1300. The engineering college is much harder to get into though. Focus on Math and Science aspects.

You have a good chance with the only, but somewhat big flaw of having no extracurriculars. However, you still have a pretty decent chance and if jasseraid is right and you do indeed live in Texas, then I would focus on your SATs
