<p>You should put “helping with the family business,” or however you decide to phrase it, as the first EC when you write them out next year. </p>
<p>There is a site that shows the breakdown of every college by state. Some states send extremely few applicants to top schools - 0-5 from year to year - and I suspect that it is, indeed, a hook. If going to a top school is your main goal, apply to more schools than the average typically recommended.</p>
<p>I suspect you will be competing with other ND applicants and being first generation will put you over the edge, I think. Good luck. </p>

<p>all the schools you mentioned are reaches and your only hook is first gen. I am also an immigrant and I dont consider it as a hook. Get over it and stop using it as an excuse to get into college</p>

<p>do you have time to do more EC’s before you apply? if so, that will significantly increase your chances. also, talk about your family business to explain why you may have so little.</p>
