Chances to get into Villanova University?

I am a freshman at Sacred Heart University and I just hate it here! I am a very conservative and mature student who does not go out and party and I did not realize how big of a party school Sacred Heart was until I got there which I was not expecting. Despite the parties all the time, this school is really trying to build up there name and reputation. They are building several new buildings and keep admitting about 200 more freshman than the year before to become a bigger school but with that happening, there is no more room for freshman, sophomores, juniors and seniors. Everyone other than freshman have to live AT LEAST 15 minutes away from campus and I got forced tripled into a double which makes everything a lot worse. The security absolutely sucks here, anyone could get in if they wanted to which makes me and even my parents very concerned. I just don't like it here and I want something bigger, better and a lot more conservative. Sacred Heart is not a challenge for me and I like a challenge. I am also a cheerleader and at Sacred Heart it is considered a D1 sport which I want when I transfer. I need something a lot better because I am so disappointed in my decision.

I visited Villanova over the summer just to look around and I fell in love. It really is the perfect school for me. The reason I didn't apply my senior year of high school is mainly because of my grades. I went to a catholic school on long island and passing was a 75. Now, I NEVER failed a class or even came close to it. I always had high 80's and low 90's for the most part and my senior year I finished with a perfect 4.0. What hurt me most was definitely the SATs. I studied my butt off for solo long (almost 2 years) and just did not do good. I super scored and came to a 1600. I was very involved in high school by doing soo many clubs and being captain of cheerleading all 4 years. But when it came down to applying I didn't feel confident with my application enough to send it to Villanova but now i regret that and I really want to transfer there. Here at Sacred Heart I am maintaining about a 3.3-3.5 GPA throughout my classes which I am happy about but definitely want to improve next semester.I have been juggling participating in a D1 sport along with work-study and other clubs and by spring semester cheer season will be finished so I can definitely focus more on grades and involvement in the school. I have already been doing research for Villanova, it's just hard to find opinions so PLEASE respond... I would really appreciate and it would just help so much! Please feel free to say anything. Be brutal if necessary I do not mind!

You’re overall chances for Villanova aren’t that bad. I mean, the 4.0 that you achieved your Senior year is amazing. Most seniors, including myself, had to overcome senioritis :(. Anyway, while at Sacred Heart, make the best of the opportunities that you have. I’m currently at Rutgers University and I don’t like it either. The school overall is mediocre, and the students aren’t that motivated. So don’t worry, I know how you feel.

Try to take hard classes next semester, and even take classes during the Winter Session in case some of your classes that you want to take next semester has pre-requisites. Try to get an overall of 3.5. You can do this, don’t sweat it  Also, I’ve meet college students that want to transfer who aren’t confident about their SAT scores. What did they do? They studied and retook them again. You can also do this, of course if you’re willing to put in the time and effort.

Lastly, the fact that you’re involved with a D1 sport will help your application. You’re trying to be a student-athlete, which is tough. But, that doesn’t mean that you can slack, which you’re not doing. You’re working in the classroom and cheerleading as well, which is awesome! I played Varsity soccer in high school for 3 years and had a hard time being a student at times. You seem to be handling it well.

Bottom line, try to get a good GPA, take hard classes next semester, maybe take classes during the Winter Session, and write an essay of why you want to transfer. In the essay, be specific why you want to transfer. Talk about SHU and why you didn’t like it there. Maybe Nova has a better department for your major than SHU? If you want to re-read the essay after you’re done writing it, I’ll be more than happy to do so. If you want anymore advice feel free to DM me. I also want to transfer, so we’ll work together! Have a great day

sergiok SO SO HELPFUL! you’re making me feel better already and i really appreciate it. Im already planning on taking 1 winter session because I have to stay at school for practice for nationals. I am also planning on taking 7 classes spring semester because my schedule is going to be a lot less hectic and I’m planning on going to do more clubs and stuff like that so hopefully will help. Im working so hard because I am determined to transfer to just an overall better school. As you mentioned about my major, I got into the business school here at Sacred Heart so hopefully that will look good as well (even though I know the business school is very competitive). We can definitely help each other out! thank you so much for the response and best of luck the rest of the year!

Yup! It’s no problem at all! I hope the winter session helps. Can you look at my transfer thread? I mean, if you have the time?

I think you do have a chance. Your gpa makes you a strong applicant
