Chances to getting into a UC

Hey, I am a Junior in California and I was wondering what my chances are in getting into a UC (preferably UCSC, UCSB, UCD, maybe UCSD).

GPA: UW:3.74 W: 4.03 UC:3.81
SAT: 1740 (taking another one soon)
Courses: Soph: 1 AP, 3 Honors — Junior: 3 AP, 3 Honors — Senior: planning on taking 5 AP classes
EC: Eagle Scout, CSF Member, Summer classes at local college
In-state-student

I am kind of nervous this year because I got 2 C’s this semester and 1 C last semester. These are my first C’s in the past two years. All the rest have been mostly A’s and a few B’s. Generally my GPA has improved each semester so I’m hoping admissions officers will see that instead of the individual grades. Will getting these C’s hurt my chances or is it mostly based on GPA?
Also, I know my EC are lacking a bit so I was wondering if anybody has any suggestions on anything good to do over the summer that would strengthen my application.

Thank You!

UC GPA/SAT score are competitive for UCSC/UCR/UCM. For the rest of the UC’s, you are looking at average UC GPA’s of 4.0+. For example the averages for this years in-coming Freshman at UCSB are:
Avg Admitted GPA: 4.19 (UC GPA)
Avg Admitted SAT: 1976
Avg Admitted ACT: 29

You should consider retaking the SAT or trying the ACT. Work on more leadership positions in your EC’s and this summer start writing your essays. The C’s will definitely hurt your chances but if you have a good explanation for the lower grades, it should be addressed in your essay. Your best chances will be UCSC/UCR and UCM. No reason not to apply to the rest but consider them your Reach schools. Good Luck.
