Chances to Honors Program

As the title says, I want to know if I had a shot to get into the honors program at Fordham. And does anyone know how Fordham gives out scholarships? Is it based mainly on numbers? I am asking because I probably won't be able to attend without a significant amount of aid. Thanks!

Every application is considered for merit scholarships at Fordham. Generally a 1400 SAT is required to be in the strong pool for scholarships. You clearly meet those credentials. I also think you are in the running for Honors College.

I think you would be a great fit at Fordham and hope you will keep it HIGH on your list. I am confident you will be admitted with those stats. Well done.

Good luck and look forward to seeing you at Fordham. Its a GREAT school!

i’m no admissions officer, but i would think that an honors program would definitely look for and strongly consider applicants with your record. strong, solid chances. good luck hawkphoenix.

You should check out their website under “Honors Program”. They are very selective.

It also depends on which campus you want. I know that there are ONLY 15 students admitted to the Honors program at Lincoln Center. DOn’t know the number @ Rose Hill

Your 35 ACT is equivalent to a 1580 - I’d say you will have no problem getting into the Honors program, and you should apply early. My d had very similar scores to you but was very, very involved in service and leadership. She got into all the top schools she applied to. Fordham, however, only gave her a $10,000 Dean’s scholarship and because we were not eligible for aid, they did not increase that amount. The odd thing is better ranked/more reputable schools, including an IVY, did qualify her for “aid” scholarships at higher amounts than FU and it made her choice to attend a top ranked school that much easier. If you’re a National Merit Finalist and select Fordham as your 1st choice, you will most likely get a full ride. Good Luck. Write a great essay & you will do great wherever you decide to go!

I’m pasting something I posted 6mths ago:

Specifically concerning the Honors Program at Fordham College Rose Hill, this is what I know:
The folks at the admissions dept. select out what they feel are the top applicants in the pool that are being offered acceptances (usually 100-200 total). The folders of these individuals are forwarded to the Honors Program. The program’s staff and the professors that teach the Honor’s courses then read through all of these applicants to select out what will hopefully be an Honors class of about 25 students (last year’s freshmen had 36 selected and 35 accepted).
Notice of an offer to be in the Honor’s Program starts getting mailed out in mid Feb.

The essay and other written responses in the application are very important - the idea is to make the honors program a diverse community of students from various backgrounds and different future interests. Once a student is pre-selected from the main applicant pool into the group of 100-200 honor’s program candidates, gpa’s and test scores really don’t matter anymore for selection (since all the candidates have relatively high objective numbers).
