Chances to Hotel Major for a Lacking student with dreams.

Hi,
I’m a Korean male who came to Hawaii 6 years ago, and going to be senior in upcoming August. I’m interested in applying for hotel/hospitality majors in:

Ecole Hoteliere de Lausanne (my first choice) - Lausanne, Switzerland
Cornell University (hard, but I heard they look more toward experiences)
Michigan State Univ.
UNLV
University of Hawaii

Bad GPA in freshmen year, but I improved… taking one AP this upcoming year.

I’ve done many travel/hotel related works this year, enrolled to Travel Industry Management class, and will be taking Entrepreneurship/Marketing, which involves lots of business PR, as well as competitions. Also we planned the huge events from what we learned (going to show this as portfolio to adcom when interviewing), helped out University of Hawaii’s own TIM Night, and etc. Does taking business classes like that relates to the major I wish to enroll a big plus?

I haven’t taken SAT yet (taking June 4th SAT), but my practice test scores were bad… totalling out to about 1300-1400 range (close to 550-600 math, close to 500 CR, and 350-400 writings) I’ve been improving rapidly as I took KAPLAN prep but still I don’t think it’s going to raise that much. Thinking to hit around mid 1800s… Also taking SAT II Korean in November (should be 800)

I know I lack in many features, but could you please tell me chances for each one of those colleges, and does being immigrant considered on SAT score? Our school has 7 APs.

And
Looking for hotel internships that I could do during summer.

Thank you in advance!

Temple U. in Philadelphia has a School of Tourism & Hospitality Management. We looked at the Temple campus for my daughter and thought it was quite nice. It is an urban campus and the surrounding area is not too terrific but the campus itself seemed pretty safe. My d is also not a great test taker (SAT 950 -1000 range but ACT is a bit higher). UNLV and Temple may not be as selective as some of the other schools on your list, so you may want to concentrate your efforts on those schools. I would think Las Vegas and Philadelphia and Hawaii would be great places to study hotel management. PS Do not worry too much about the writing portion. A lot of colleges are not going to consider the writing portion of the SAT test this year. They said the test is too new and they are going to wait a year or two before the give it more consideration.

Temple U sounds great as I just checked Princeton Review... but I don't know about UNLV and Hawaii.... my dad doesn't want me to go to low ranked college, mainly because we moved here for education. What I like about Temple was 17:1 ratio even though its a public school.. it sounds cool.

Your Daughter seems to be in great school~

Yes, I also heard from my SAT teacher that schools, in which doesn't require SAT II writing will not look at writing portion of new SAT I.

thank you~

look into Univ of Denver

I second the U of Denver. Widener in PA is another one.

You might try explaining to your dad that for what you want to do (hotel management) these are some of the top ranked schools. UNLV is particularly good for hotel management due to the huge number of hotels nearby for internships and jobs. But, all of the ones on your list are also good. Best of luck!
