Undergrad GPA : 3.60/4.00 (Midwest state school, top 20)
GMAT : 700
Work Experience : 2 years I-banking

Looking to apply for Wharton, Stanford, Columbia and U of Chicago.

Thanks!

Your stats is average to below average for those schools. Unless you are URM, no shot at W/S. There might be a slight chance at CBS and Booth. I-Bankers at Booth and CBS are a dime a dozen, so you’ll need some spectacular essay/rec/EC.

is it because of my GPA? i was wondering, how high must my GPA be since I’m from a top 20 midwest state school?

you should be competitive at most top schools, wharton/stanford will be a bit of s stretch and will come down to intangibles, youre GPA is fine to better than fine.

whats the prestige level of the i-bank? are you in nyc? i think this will be the crucial part of the app. your numerical stats are not outstanding (though certainly in range) so you will need an extra umph to put you over the edge.

how can you differentiate yourself?

I wouldn’t worry about the GPA. For one, you can’t change that. And two, it’s not as important as GMAT in b-school admission process. However, a 700 GMAT isn’t bad, you will not get rejected because of a 700. However, you need to be able to set yourself apart from the rest of the b-school applicants, which is done in your essays, recommendations, and extra curricular.
B-school isn’t like med or law school, the stats doesn’t make that much of a difference in admissions. Top b-schools will reject 760+ and accept 660.
