THANKS!!

I'm assuming your class rank is in the top 2-3% considering your high GPA. Obviously it is good enough for all top schools. As for your SATs and SATII's, they can use some improvement. (You said you wanted them to be up there) I would break 2300 on all SAT's and 750 on all SAT II's. I would add a few more safeties but I think most of those schools are attainable while still being low reach to reaches.

Please chance me:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=361246

I almost feel as if retaking the SAT will not be worth your time. If you really want to, or think that you can do much better, it's fine. But your scores overall are pretty consistent- the SAT I and SAT II. Your work history is impressive- all of those hours at Kuman, plus the other tutoring. You are obviously a hard worker, and you are persistent. You are in a good number of activities. You appear to be a social person, and that is good. You have a tiny bit of leadership- if you can expand on that in senior year, it will help a lot. Your overall record is very good with the coursework, test scores, and work background. It isn't really splashy though, for the Ivy League. The distinguishing thing that might help you there is the long work background in the tutoring. Your record is plenty splashy enough though to get you into other top schools. I think you are fine at U Chicago, PSU, and probably a few of the others, but put some additional likely admission schools on your list-first tier but not Ivy. You may get into some of the Ivies, but few people can count on that.

decent chances at those reaches, but not amazing. You look like a normal applicant.

And *** is golf theory??

thank you everyone! unfortunately the time for running for leadership positions has come and gone so this is what I will have in the end:

Secretary of Junior/Senior classes, NHS delegate (2 years), German Club Newsletter Editor, and Chess Club Attendance Officer.

my class rank (my school doesnt rank, but approximately) is 3/415.

I plan on retaking the SATs because I prepared ZERO for them. As for the SAT IIs, a friend of mine said that 700+ is good enough, and that once you hit that point, it doesn't really matter to colleges. Is that true?

And cory quick question what is a normal applicant's chances, does that mean I still have a decent shot? Like what part of application makes me average (I'm guessing your saying my EC's?).

Well me and my friend are actually starting a small company devoted to tutoring for free to kids that really struggle in school. It's looking really promising too, like we have advertisements all over the school; He and I are the managers and chief tutors, and we're hiring about 5-6 tutors to work for us. Although tutoring isnt a passion of mine, I happen to have a talent for it, so do you think making this company would make me an above average candidate?

Reject by HYP
50/50 Dartmouth
in at the rest

thx bill! also can someone address the questions i asked before bill's post?

for SAT IIs, it's better if you get a 750 or above.
cory: you're average in the application pool
company: just a little better, it'll push you ahead by a lot if it gets bigger.

WOW! Your community service hours are over the top!! Are you sure they all started from freshman year because if not, you cannot count them...but I think you'll get in. Your leadership positions are lacking, but your tutoring and service hours make up for it. With a strong essay, I think you'll be in! Good job!

ok just so everyone knows my hours at kumon are not community service, along with about 300 hours of personal tutoring, so i only have about 400 hours volunteering.

also i was under the impression i had relatively good leadership positions:

class secretary
nhs officer
chess club officer
german club officer

should I be going for something more? im thinking about bringing linkcrew to my school, do u think that would make a big difference?

Try getting VP roles in one or two clubs you really have a passion for if its not too late for that.

yea its too late unfortunately :(

how did the linkcrew founder idea sound?

You should find the thing you're most passionate about and try and do something related to that. That was it's easier to write your EC essays for college.

So what are you passionate about anyway?

hmm i love biology/chemistry and healthcare

there is no way to ever know for sure that the op will be rejected at hyp and definitely know way of knowing he will get into his other top reach schools.

i would say that you are a strong applicant and have a solid shot at all of these schools. however, as i'm sure you've heard before, it's a crapshoot, so you never know.

Dear BillBank,

Please let us know when you become an admissions officer. Until then i would really try and refrain from replying to these posts with such confidence, because truth is YOU DONT KNOW.

the end.

now that i think about it, your leadership positions are not very lacking...my only suggestion would be to show your passion more because you wrote you're interested in biology chemsitry butt i only see a lot of tutoring......butt, at this point, i would only suggest writing a relaly good essay and ull get in

good luck

well if its any help my tutoring at kumon (1500 hours) centers around mostly math and some reading

my 500 personal tutoring hours is almost entirely science

my 50 hours comm. service/research at temple university is science

150 hours volunteering at a cancer center is also science

my essay topic is about how I've had to deal with pain and how I've come to regard doctors as the pillar of my livelihood. i also incorporate how my parents homeland of Iran has no healthcare system, and my family is frantically searching for a pacemaker in Iran, because it is illegal to import from foreign countries

sound good?

cooper/eskimo: it's a CHANCE thread and I'm only stating her chances at those schools in my opinion.

thanks bill. could someone address the post before his?
