Chances to Top Schools Please!

your SATI and II's are definitely lacking when I then look at your gpa, i guess I expected more...you're in a lot of clubs but you don't seem to focus on any one thing, you're just in a lot of clubs and you seem to be "packing" the resume...

i know that it looks like that at this point im just trying to isolate what to put on my common app.

i am retaking the SAT and taking the ACT

so my passions are science/math, german, and just being involved (and because i like being involved, it looks like im packing my resume).

i currently have 2 major and 2 minor leadership positions. let me respost this since no one saw it the first time (my passions):

"well if its any help my tutoring at kumon (1500 hours) centers around mostly math and some reading

my 500 personal tutoring hours is almost entirely science

my 50 hours comm. service/research at temple university is science

150 hours volunteering at a cancer center is also science

my essay topic is about how I've had to deal with pain and how I've come to regard doctors as the pillar of my livelihood. i also incorporate how my parents' homeland of Iran has no healthcare system, and my family is frantically searching for a pacemaker in Iran, because it is illegal to import from foreign countries

sound good?"

no one can answer that question?

Hm, I'd say
accept/waitlist at one or two of Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Penn, and Dartmouth;
probably accept at Cornell and Brown
accept at Washington University in St. Louis, University of Chicago, Schreyers (PSU Honors College)

all reaches. you have a great gpa. but your satII's are a reach for those schools. your regular SAT score is fine but most people i know who got intot hose schools scored around the upper 2300's. good luck though!

thanks guys! im retaking my SAT's, and expecting 2300s.

Wait, do they take the highest score form each section of separate SATs? If so, then definitely 2300s.

I was always under the impression SAT II's are never the reason you don't get in, as long as you did a pretty good job. Am i Wrong? Should i retake the SAT II's? (math IIC)

Harvard-reach
Princeton-reach
Yale-reach (these three are for everybody. don't get discouraged. it gets better from here)
Penn-low reach
Schreyers (PSU Honors College)-safety
Cornell-match
Dartmouth-low reach/match
Washington University in St. Louis-match
University of Chicago-match
Duke-low reach/match
Brown-low reach

one more safety school wouldn't hurt you and take off one of your HYP.

ok token sounds good to me! ya i have a few safeties but I didn't feel like asking for my chances there since they are...well...safeties. Would it make a difference that I'm applying EA to Yale?

so does EA at Yale make a difference?

bump bump bump

yes EA at Yale does make a difference, IMO
and if you want to impress with science/math, you have to impress with awards in competitions such as AMC/AIME/USAMO etc., not volunteering.

im an AIME semifinalist as i mentioned earlier :)

and from what I've heard from the experts, schools want long term commitments and passions directed towards math/science, rather than simple awards

bump bump bump
