I'm from Kentucky, far from the Ivy League schools so I don't know much about the admissions standards. Just wondering what my chances are at Harvard, Cornell, Princeton, etc.... I have only taken the SAT once, so I could probably improve; I scored a 2190. 780 math and 740 writing, but I bombed CR with a 670. My ACT composite is a 35, but I have a 36 superscored. 4.0 unweighted GPA, having taken AP cal ab, ap cal bc, ap spanish 4, ap english language, ap human geo, ap us history, ap stats.

My ECs aren't quite so strong... 4 year high school soccer, part time job with 10 hours a week, National Honor society, spanish national honor society, math written assessment for academic team, and that's about it. I attended Governor's scholar program, which is a relatively prestigious five week summer enrichment program in Kentucky. I am a National Merit Semi-finalist, and should advance to finalist. I am a fairly good writer and should be able to produce some decent essays. I should be able to get excellent letters of recommendation.

I think you should be fine for those top schools as long as you submit your ACT and not SAT. And your EC’s actually are pretty strong. The 4 years of soccer show consistency. Is there a particular major you’re interested in? You also didn’t mention your AP scores/Subject test scores.

I would say that you are a competitive applicant based on your GPA and ACT scores, but it really depends on if students from your school have gotten into schools of that caliber … If yes, I’d say you have great chances, if not, it may be more challenging! Good luck!

Just send ACT and you are golden for standardized testing! ECs are a little weak, but if you are just interested in Cornell apply there ED and you’ll get in no question, especially with your geographic diversity (which helps me out a bit too: I’m a fellow southerner from NC). With good essays you might stand a chance at HYPS, but your ECs might be a little too weak for them. Regardless you at least have a shot at them :D
