Chances to top tier schools.

Hi everyone, I would really dig it if I could get chanced. I am an Indian Male (Dot not feather) and I would say I am a pretty decent student.

Grades:
My unweighted GPA is something around a 3.86 and my weighted GPA is a 3.99 out of a 4.75 (Not possible because Gym and such are not weighted).
I got one B+ Freshman year (Advanced Geometry). No honors courses taken
I got 2 B+'s Sophomore year (Advanced Alg. 2 and High Chemistry) 1 Honors course this year
Straight A's / A-'s taken Junior year. AP Lang and Comp - 5, AP Physics C: Mehanics: N/A, AP US History: 4, AP AB Calculus: 4.

In Junior year, I took 4 AP Courses and a dual enrollment college level Spanish class. I received an A- in that course. It is notable to say that I jumped from Alg. 2 to Calc because I took Pre-Calculus over the summer. Contrary to my belief and my guidance counselor's belief it did infact end up on my transcript. I received a B and a B+ as it was broken into two parts but my transcript does note it as a transition class taken over the summer.

Additionally, I have always taken the highest classes available to me. Freshman year and Sophomore year, I was a track behind the highest in math, but regardless, it was the highest I could actually take since we operate on a track program.

SATS: 740 W 10 Essay, 740 CR, 700 M. Retaking SAT II's but I have a 710 in math 2C. Taking Lit + US History.

ACTS: 31 Composite

My senior year schedule is the following:
AP Physics 2: (AP Physics C E&M)
AP Computer Science
AP Gov
AP BC Calc
AP Spanish
AP English Lit & Comp.

I don't think I'll be able to send in with straight A's as English is literally impossible. Although I could be wrong, I just don't think it's possible for me to get an A- or anything in that vicinity for English. I'm not sure how big a deal they make of first MP for senior year. However, everything else should be decent although I'm a bit concerned about Physics 2 and BC.

EC's:
FBLA (9-12) 5th at Regionals, didn't place at States. Got 8th place in an open event at States though.
Spanish Club (9-12) President
Squash Club (10-12) No position currently, although running for a lowly one.
Academic Challenge (Quiz Bowl type thing - 10-12) JV
Danish Exchange Program (11)
Web Design (9-12) I did a voluntary website for a local dance community, but also did commercial endeavors for multiple different insurance firms as well as a local millwork firm.
Volunteer at a local hospital (11, 12)
JV Tennis (10-12)
Self Taught Sound Synthesis (9-12)
I've also been teaching myself Danish and I have been practicing a few hours a week for the past year or so.
I speak Tamil (Indian dialect) fluently.
I also am teaching myself the Ocarina (I love Zelda, lol)
Managed a Professional Gaming Team (9-10)
Write editorials for a Professional Gaming Team (12)
Attended former Governor's School (State no longer funds it, albeit it's still prestigious).

Awards:
Distinguished Honors 9-Now
I won an award for raising money for those less fortunate two years in a row at school.
I don't really think it's that big of a deal though.

Thanks so much for your time. I'd really love to be chanced for Northwestern - it's my #1 and I'm for sure EDing there. Additional schools I'm definitely applying to are Chicago (EA I think), Michigan, NYU, Vanderbilt, Rice, Tufts, Lehigh, Penn, Brown, and UVA.

Smart idea w/ NW and UChicago early. I doubt Penn or Brown RD will happen, but the others seem like matches.
Where do you live?
What is your true safety?

I would say your chances for all of them are pretty good. Penn and Brown are, of course, gonna be tough, but i’d say its definitely worth applying!

^Agreed 10char.

Thanks for the replies everybody! I don’t know what a true safety for me would be other than Penn State Main. Perhaps Lehigh, I might count as a safety because that’s where my gov school was and I have a rec. from the director of that program. Do you guys think there are any other schools in that vicinity that I should look into? I was considering looking into Washington St. Louis

bump 10 char. Any others that are worth looking into / applying?

I don’t understand how you say you are a decent student but only maintain a 3.99 weighted GPA. It seems like you have taken pretty tough classes; how many Bs have you gotten? Because a a sub-4 weighted GPA is going to hurt your chances.

I thought I wrote that in my post originally. I got a B+ in Advanced Geometry freshman year. I got a B+ in Advanced Algebra II and High Chem Soph year, and I got a B and a B+ in Precalc 1 and 2 both of which I took over the summer. I didn’t know the latter two would go on my transcript. All of my B+'s in the other years were 89.___ :frowning: But alas a B+ is a B+, so I’d say total 3 and but if you count the summer course, then 5. In total, I will have taken 11 AP courses by the time I graduate and 1 dual enrollment as well as 1 honors. Aside from Geometry and Alg 2, I will have taken the most rigorous course load possible. (I was on the advanced track not honors due to where I was placed when I moved in the school district). I made up for that via precalc over the summer.

^Yeah that’s what I thought. I guess your school weights on an off-standard system because their is no way that 3 Bs and a lot of As can result in a 3.99 weighted.

yeah a 4.0 is an A, a 4.25 is an A+ UW. Weighted it’s simply shifted up .5. I have a 3.86/4.25 I am in the top 10% of my class, and we don’t rank so colleges will just get that I am in the top 10%.

Bump: Do you guys think I’d have any chances at Emory? I’ve been considering that as well. I think out of that list, the major players for me are Northwestern, Chicago, Michigan, Tufts, Emory, and Vanderbilt.

Also, the only reason Penn would be feasible is because I live in the Greater Philadelphia area. So getting in ED would not be nearly as hard as somebody who lived out of state. However, because they cater to local legacies as well as those who have parents who work them, almost every sliver of hope is lost I think. Why do you guys think Brown is out of reach though?

Bump 10 char
